What if You’ve Taken Dangerous Medications, e.g., Zantac?
While most medications help us get better for specific ailments and conditions, unfortunately, some medicines that crop up from time to time can cause harm, so always make sure you speak to your doctor about any prescribed medications and check the ingredients.
For example, if a medication includes N-nitrosodimethylamine, which is more commonly known as NDMA, the ingredient could cause cancer. Recently, two hundred people joined the Zantac lawsuit and alleged the makers of the medication, which contained NDMA, deceived millions of consumers into purchasing a misbranded and harmful drug. Thankfully, after an investigation by the Food & Drug Administration, Zantac has now been recalled. If you were diagnosed with cancer after taking the Zantac medication between 1983 and 2020, you could recover damages like other claimants.
Eat Healthily
A healthy diet allows you to reduce the risk of experiencing many health problems. That includes cancer. While a healthy diet cannot guarantee cancer prevention, it will undoubtedly lower the risk. Doctors and dieticians recommend eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. You should also choose fewer foods with high calories, such as fat from animal sources and refined sugars, and only drink alcohol in moderation. Drinking alcohol regularly can increase cancers like colon, breast, lung, liver, and kidney. Another food to avoid is processed meats. According to the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, eating large amounts of processed meat can increase the risk of some types of cancer.
Maintain a Healthy Weight
Just as important as eating healthily is maintaining a good weight. The good news is a healthy diet contributes to a good weight. When you have a healthy weight, your risk of getting cancers like breast, lung, kidney, prostate, and colon is reduced. But it is not all about eating healthily. To maintain a healthy weight, you need to be physically active too. You should aim for at least thirty minutes of physical activity in your routine each day.
Stop Smoking
Any tobacco can end up causing cancer, so if you smoke tobacco, you should try to stop it. Smoking tobacco can lead to cancer of the mouth, lung, larynx, throat, bladder, pancreas, kidney, and cervix. Even if you do not smoke tobacco, you could heighten your risk of cancer by being exposed to second-hand smoke, so avoid smoky places. If you need help to quit, ask your doctor about the various available strategies and products.
Avoid Certain Toxins
It may be difficult to avoid certain toxins if you work in an industry where they are common. Still, industrial and environmental toxins like benzene, asbestos fibers, PCBs, and aromatic amines can all increase cancer risk. So, it is best to avoid them.
Avoid Certain Forms of Radiation
Some forms of radiation can cause cancer. By knowing what they are and lowering your exposure, you can reduce the risk of getting cancer. So:
· Check your property for radon, which can increase the risk of lung cancer.
· Protect yourself from too much sunlight because its ultraviolet radiation increases the risk of melanomas and other skin cancers.
· Have medical imaging studies only when necessary.
