Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center to Benefit from Annual Heart of San Diego Gala

One of the finest black tie fundraiser of the year, The Heart of San Diego Gala, will be taking place on March 4^th. This year’s gala will mark the 20^th anniversary of the event, with proceeds going towards the fight against heart disease at the much deserving Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center.

610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States every year, meaning 1 in every 4 deaths are heart disease-related. Being the leading cause of death in both men and woman, it is apparent that special care and attention needs to be paid to people suffering from this disease. Patients from around the country are often referred to the UCSD Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center when their outlook is otherwise grim. Cutting-edge technology and leading heart surgeons offer a second chance to many heart patients in dire need of outstanding care. 

Technological advancements are of the utmost importance when being used in Heart Disease operations, an incredibly delicate operation. Sulpizio Center boasts the use of state-of-the-art technology, including virtual fluoroscopy 3-D visualization and the use of a hybrid operating room. This room has the capacity to preform coronary artery bypass graft surgery while performing coronary artery stenting at the same time. Ground-breaking advancements and innovative "first" care, such as having the first surgeons on the West Coast to implant an FDA-approved fully artificial heart, and minimally invasive, robotic cardiac surgery demonstrate the integrity of the use of funds raised by events such as the Gala.
