San Diego Civic Theatre presents "EVITA"

The Tony Award® winning musical  EVITA, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, comes to San Diego at long last. The national touring production comes directly from the first new Broadway revival of the seven-time Tony Award-winning musical, since it debuted on Broadway over 30 years ago. EVITA  was a hit on Broadway in 1979  premier after originating in London’s West End. The new version of the musical,  adds the song "You Must Love Me," which originated with the 1996 movie adaptation starring Madonna. Beyond the music’s appeal  plays a message of dignity and perseverance helps explain its enduring popularity through generations. The universal story, of  how a leader can inspire hope in a nation, is something that everybody can relate to.

EVITA is the store of Eva Perón, who used her beauty and charisma to rise from the slums and ghetto's of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady of the country. Perón was adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world. Her descent was catapulted through  her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health. This  made her one of the most tragic figures of history. EVITA tells Perón, extraordinary true story, and features some of productions most beautiful songs, including "Don’t Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying."
