5 Situations Where Having a Portable Power Station Can Be a Lifesaver

There are all kinds of gadgets and pieces of equipment you might buy in portable form. In many cases, you might not realize such an item could be portable. That is the case with power stations. Until you see one, you might not know that such a thing could be possible.

Essentially, a portable power station is a high-capacity battery pack. It comes in a travel-friendly, compact design. Something like the Anker Solix F2600 portable power station would be a prime example of this technology.

If you start to think about it, you can probably bring to mind several situations where having a portable power station would come in handy. We will talk about five such scenarios right now. When we’re finished, you might decide that you want to buy one just in case one of these situations ever arises.

It Can Keep Your Fridge Running

If you lose power at your house, that’s a situation that can get unpleasant in a hurry. You might immediately think about all of the perishable food items you have in the fridge.

The ones in the freezer should last longer, but the ones in the fridge section itself, such as milk or cottage cheese, can’t be left to get to room temperature, or else they will no longer be safe to eat. You might consume as much of that food as you can before it goes to waste, but other than that, you’re going to lose some of it.

That’s not the case if you have a portable power station, though. If you connect your fridge to it, then the station should allow it to keep running for at least a couple of days. Hopefully, that extra time is what it will take for the electric company to fix the issue and restore your power.

You Can Keep Your Phone Alive

If you lose power, that also means you will need to start conserving the charge on your smartphone. You can’t just look at memes or watch movies on it, or it will soon be out of juice.

You can recharge your phone with a portable power station, though. You can probably recharge it several times with a station that is of a decent size and strength.

While that probably doesn’t mean you can start shopping on Amazon with your phone, you will still have a little more freedom to use it until power is restored. This way, you can at least keep in contact with your friends and relatives to let them know you’re still alright and you’re coping with the situation okay.

You can also use your phone to continually check the website of your power company to get any updates that they post.

You Can Use the Portable Power Station to Run a Fan or Air Conditioner

If the power goes out in your home, then it’s also going to get pretty hot if it’s the height of summer. If you live in the Southwest and it’s August when you lose power, you might soon find yourself in a sweltering house with temperatures that are approaching triple digits.

That’s not just uncomfortable. It could become dangerous, particularly if there are babies or older adults in the family. The heat might endanger their lives if you can’t come up with a way to cool things down.

You can’t use the portable power station to turn your home’s central air back on, but you can use it to power a window AC unit for a while. That will keep a single room in your house cool, and the whole family can stay in there if necessary.

You might also use the portable power station to run a fan if you don’t have a window AC unit. That’s not ideal, but it will be better than nothing. It should be enough to get you through the worst of the heat until the power comes back on and you can cool your home down again.

You Can Use It to Turn Some of Your Lights On

If you lose power, and you’re in the dark, then that can get pretty scary. It’s always possible that burglars might try to take advantage of this time to do some looting.

Even if that doesn’t happen, you might still stub your toe on a protruding corner or run yourself into a piece of furniture and give yourself a nasty bruise. You can avoid that by using your portable power station to keep some of your larger lights on for a while.

You might also use it topower one of your flashlights if you have the rechargeable kind that doesn't run on batteries. The average portable power station can charge a light as powerful as 110 watts.

That way, you will at least have a few rooms in your house lit up, and you might scare away any intruders who can see that there’s still someone home and the property is not unguarded.

You Can Have More Power in an RV

A portable power station has more uses than just helping you around the house if the power goes out, though. You can also use it if you go camping or go on a trip in an RV.

In a modern RV, you should have multiple AC outlets. You can use those to run all kinds of things. They do not provide unlimited power, though.

You can power more items in your RV with the portable power station. If you’re trying to cook an elaborate meal for several people, one will certainly come in handy. You can use it to power something like a microwave or instant pot.

Even if you have enough space to plug in several appliances in your RV, you should still be careful, since you can blow a fuse if you use all of the outlets. By using a portable power station in addition to some of the outlets, the chances that you can finish cooking your meal without incident are much higher.
