The 2016 Coronado Valentine’s Day 10k Fun Run will take place at Tidelands Park in Coronado, California on Sunday February 14th, 2016. This will be the 6th year that the event will be held. This year, the event will give runners the choice to run different distances. It will add a 5k and 1 mile run. The event is perfect for anyone who wants to find a date, since it will be a Match Making event too! It will be a great opportunity for singles to meet other individuals who share the same passion for being active. Participants will choose from three different bibs that will let others know their relationship status: Available, Taken or It’s Complicated. Anyone who wants to run will enjoy the breathtaking view of beaches and historical houses in San Diego.
The runners will receive awards after they finish the flat–course run. Each of the top 3 finishers in each age category, men’s, women, and couples for the 10k will receive an Islander Hand Carved Tiki. Each participant in the 10k and 5k will receive a t–shirt. The runners in the 10k course will receive a high quality technical t–shirt and the ones in the 5k will get a high quality cotton t–shirt. Aside from the t–shirts, each 10k and 5k participant will be awarded a finisher’s medal. The 1 mile run will be a fun and exciting event for kids, who will also receive high quality t–shirts and medals. Couples with children can make this an entertaining and unforgettable family event. Grab–bags will also be awarded to every participant, which will include coupons to local restaurants and shops. The fun will continue after the run with a post–race party at McP’s Pub where participants can further socialize with other runners they just met.
All of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Stephen J. Wampler Foundation and the Islander Sports Foundation. The Stephen J. Wampler Foundation is a non–profit which provides disabled kids with the opportunity to explore the wilderness of the High Sierras. The foundation started in 2002 and the age range is from 10–18. It gives hope to young kids who may not easily be able to do things their abled peers can. Through its wonderful activities such as canoeing, fishing and hiking, the foundation allows kids with physical limitations to have an experience that could change their lives. It helps them grow in an intellectual manner while being in a safe and nurturing environment. The interactive setting is a welcoming place that gives disabled kids the chance to meet new friends.
The Islander Sports Foundation helps sustain the school sports of Coronado. Its main targets are Coronado High School and Coronado Middle School. Coronado is burdened with public funding cuts, which impacts all aspects of education. Through the Islander Sports Foundation, teenagers can fully benefit from athletic programs which are supported through restricted and unrestricted grants, as well as tax deductible options. The foundation works hard to make sure Coronado Islander students have the best years they can by staying healthy through athletic programs.
