To every end there is a new beginning, and while many are saddened by the closing of Hollywood Park in Los Angeles, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is excited to have inherited most of the scheduled races right here "where the turf meets the surf." Set your calendars for November 7th through the 30th, race fans, because for the first time ever, there will be continued excitement at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club as the track gets set for a newly extended season of the running of the ponies.
Add to the start of your holiday season by marking these exciting dates to your calendar and start practicing your Charleston moves now, because you are set for 23 days of racing, concerts and all that the Del Mar Racetrack has to offer. Glitz and glamour will be taken one step further as the Bing Crosby season opens with a Gatsby-style soiree to pay homage to the man who opened the track back in 1937 with Pat O’Brien and friends. If you love the big fabulous hats and swanky attire of the opening day, you’re going to be dazzled by the big bang prepared for the opening of this newly extended season.
Starting at 11 AM, the ponies will be out from Thursday through Sunday, and races start at 12:30 PM on weekdays and 12 PM on weekends (with the exception of Thanksgiving Day). The track will be closed Monday through Wednesday.

If you can make it to opening day on November 7th, start getting your Old Hollywood gear ready now, as there will be awards for Best Celebrity Look-Alike and Best Celebrity Couple at the "Old Hollywood Fashion" contest.
Watching the races without summer crowds and heat combined with a swell 1930’s style are reasons enough to add this extended season to your fall calendar, but it is the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, so of course, there’s more.
Get ready to take those dance moves to the track, as a reggae festival featuring Iration will take the stage on November 15th and alternative rock band, CAKE, will perform on the 29th for a final hurrah to this very first extended season.

Adding even more fun, be prepared for "Movember" events (start thinking about those mustaches fellas), food truck and beer festivals, giveaways such as t-shirts and towels and weekend family fun days where kids under 17 get in for free.
The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club is not only adding an extended season, but has all kinds of new excitement going on, which can be shown by the recent nomination to host the international event of thoroughbred racing held to the highest prestige world over. This event is known as the Breeders’ Cup and will be held in Del Mar in 2017. Another event that is not to be missed, but more to come on that later.
For now, raise your glasses for a toast, cats and dames, for it’s a season of firsts at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club. As Crosby so famously sang, "I count my blessings instead of sheep," and there’s certainly blessings to be counted here. It’s time to celebrate.
