Festival of the Arts in North Park

Festival of the Arts in North Park

For lovers of live music, dancing, or any art form, come to the SDCCU Festival of the Arts in North Park this May! For nearly twenty years, this festival has celebrated every aspect of art, providing hands-on activities for families and individuals throughout the day. With a Craft Beer Block for adults and a Kids Art Block, this event is perfect for any age. All proceeds for the event will benefit North Park Main Street, a non-profit organization aiming to revive and maintain North Park’s culture and rich history. Come out on May 21st to celebrate urban artists and their creations.

This free event will feature a live art expo where you can watch artists create masterpieces. Random objects will be placed before the artists, from which they will create an art piece with spray paint, acrylic paint, or even markers. At this festival, attendees can observe the creative process and sheer concentration that goes into making a masterpiece. Items are being accepted for donation that will be used by the artists. Large items such as cars, vans, or even busses are being accepted by North Park Main Street; if you choose to donate, you will have the opportunity to advise the artist—telling them how you would prefer them to portray your donation. Either way, seeing live art is a great opportunity. Don’t miss it!

Children will also be able to create their own artwork with a section especially designated for them. The Kids Art Block will have crafts and projects for every age, allowing them to explore and utilize their creative side.

The Waypoint Craft Beer Block is a central part of the festival for adult attendees. Enjoy beer from over 30 local breweries, including Green Flash, Stone Brewery, Ballast Point, 101 Cider House, Golden Coast Mead, and many more. Throughout the day, there will be two sessions for beer tasting. The first starts at 12pm and lasts until 4:00pm, while the second is at 5:00pm and ends at 9:00pm. This part of the festival requires tickets, so be sure to buy them in advance. Aside from beer, the festival will host vendors from around San Diego. Food and drink will be provided throughout the event, with various restaurants and companies supplying.

Once you’ve looked at the live art expo and exhibits, make your way over to the various stages set for dancing and live music. Local singers like Steve Poltz will take the Main Stage, along with several others. Each different stage will have something to offer. If you’re in the mood for up-beat, electronic music, visit the DJ stage on Illinois Street. If you’re in the mood to dance, visit the Dance Stage on 32nd Street and University. If you’re in the mood to sing, stop by the Karaoke Stage on Ohio Street. The festival offers a variety of music on six different stages. There is something for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re interested in dancing or singing, or you just want to enjoy the culture San Diego offers.

The Festival of the Arts in North Park will take place on May 21st, starting at 10:00am, located on University Avenue and 31st Street. The general event is free, but the Beer Block costs $30 per ticket and is restricted to those 21 and over. Tickets for this can be bought online for the session you wish to attend.
