Globe for All Performs "Measure for Measure"

Globe for All, an extension of The Old Globe, returns November 1st–November 20th, with Shakespeare’s searing comedy Measure for Measure. The program is in its third year on the annual roster, and acclaimed director Patricia McGregor makes her Globe debut for the production. The free Globe for All Shakespeare tour begins Tuesday, November 1st and includes eight new venues that stretch across San Diego County in a wide variety of economically, geographically, and culturally diverse communities. The tour will culminate in two low-cost performances on Sunday, November 20th in the Globe’s rehearsal studios, part of Balboa Park’s historic House of Charm.

Measure for Measure is one of Shakespeare’s richest plays, mixing comedy and drama in a thrilling story of love and power. In a decadent Vienna, the strict, newly appointed leader Angelo wants to rid the city of moral decay––until he falls for a young nun pleading for the life of her brother. 

Globe for All presents free professional Shakespeare to diverse, multigenerational audiences in locations around San Diego County with a cast of nine professional actors, a DJ, and four production staff members. Over the past two years, Globe for All has performed in military bases, homeless shelters, centers for the elderly, correctional facilities, recreation centers, libraries, and other community venues for nearly 2,200 audience members. 

Some of the free public venues include Fourth District Senior Resource Center (November 4th), The Old Globe Technical Center (November 5th), San Diego Public Library (November 6th), Naval Base San Diego (November 16th), and Escondido Public Library (November 19th).

The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for over 80 years. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 15 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three Balboa Park stages: the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the 600-seat Old Globe Theatre and the 250-seat Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, both part of The Old Globe’s Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, and the 605-seat outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, home of its internationally renowned Shakespeare Festival.
