The year 2020 brought significant changes to our lives. Many were forced to change their lifestyle in a massive way. People who used to go out almost every day are now confined to their homes. The scare of contracting the deadly virus continues to impact everyone, even in the way people celebrate the holidays. Still, there are ways to do so with safety in mind. Here are some of them:
Hold an Online Party
Letting in people who are not part of your household is a big no-no during this global health crisis. As much as possible, you do not want other people to come into your home, mainly if you are unsure of their exposure risk. While it is always joyous to have people celebrating with you, you can still do so by reducing physical contact. What’s the best way to do it? Have it online. There are tons of online communication apps that you can choose from to celebrate the holidays. You can use Zoom, Google Meet, Messenger, and Skype to have everyone in the family present during the holidays. Aside from being a safer option, it is also much more cost-effective.
Clean Your Home
While you may not have guests coming in for the holidays, it would still be best to maintain your home’s cleanliness. Remember that our home accumulates dirt and dust that would attract bacteria and viruses to your home, making everyone in your home vulnerable.
Decorate With Passion
Celebrating your holidays with only your immediate family does not mean that you can skip the decorations. In fact, it is necessary now more than ever. Decorating your home with holiday lights can provide you with a respite from thinking about all the chaos that the world is currently experiencing. There are online shops that do door-to-door delivery, so you don’t have to go out and risk the exposure.
Practice Physical and Social Distancing
If you decide to go out to celebrate the holidays, whether it be Thanksgiving or Christmas, it would be best to keep safety in mind and practice social distancing. If you are going to attend a mass, make sure that you maintain at least six feet distance from the person beside you. It would be better to inquire if your local church is planning to stream the service online. This way, you don’t have to go out at all and still take part in the service in the comfort of your home.
Wear Masks
Wearing a mask does not make you less of a person. Gone are the days when wearing masks are only for the sick. Wear a mask even if you are not ill as a way to protect yourself and protect other people as well. The COVID-19 virus is the invisible enemy that people have to fight collectively, and wearing masks is just one of the weapons we can use against it.
Prepare Healthy Food
In this time and age, staying healthy is our best bet against the virus. If you are used to eating steak during holiday celebrations, it will not hurt to skip it this year in favor of something healthier.
Adopt a Sustainable Holiday Celebration
If there is one thing that the pandemic has taught us, it would be sustainability. If you are going to celebrate, do so with sustainability in mind. By adopting a green lifestyle, you can save tons of money and still enjoy the little blessings that come your way.
The pandemic should not be a reason to stop people from celebrating the holidays. However, each celebration must be done with safety in mind.
