Circuit Breaker Panel

There are plenty of signs that point to a breaker box that needs replacing. When your panel looks like it needs to be changed, delaying will only make things worse. Look out for any of the following signs of a circuit breaker issue, and you’ll avoid an expensive problem.

1. Breaker Trips

There are plenty of people that need a new 1 pole square d 50 amp breaker. A tripped breaker is a common issue that sends most people to the hardware store. Whether it is consistent or random, this problem needs to be addressed the moment it is discovered.

2. Older Home

Buying an older home has a lot of upsides. But underneath the great value, there are a few small fixes that need to be addressed. At the top of the list will be the circuit breaker panel, which will probably need a replacement. It’s an inexpensive upgrade, and the quickest way to add value to an older home. If the electrical system still operates on fuses, then get the upgrade ASAP.

3. Melted Wires

Melted wires on your circuit breaker panel goes beyond a simple misconfiguration issue. Melted wires are a warning sign that there is a power overload. This can also be caused by short circuits, a problem that gets exacerbated based on the size of the building.

4. Overheating Appliances

This is a sign of a needed upgrade rather than a malfunction. In this case, the circuit breaker panel is doing its job and turning off the power to a problematic appliance. An appliance can overheat due to user error, or faulty cooling. But if the overheat is coming from another issue, then it is time to look at issues with your current circuit breaker panel.

5. Lights Flickering

Dimming or flickering lights will clue you in on the current state of your electrical system. A single light flickering is an isolated issue. When multiple lights flicker when an appliance comes on, then it is time to investigate your circuit control panel. This is a clear sign that the breaker is having issues handling the required power delivery.

6. Strange Sounds

If you hear buzzing coming from the circuit breaker, it can mean one of two things. When it is a light hum, then that is normal behavior. When the buzzing is loud, then a specific breaker is bad and not tripping as expected. You can also run into this same issue with a loose wire. Due to the uncertainty, be careful or call a professional.

7. Burning Smell

A burning smell from the circuit breaker panel can mean several different things. A bad circuit, an incorrectly connected wire, or even failure from rusting. The actual cause doesn’t matter as much as your actions after noticing the smell. Turn off and unplug all of the electrical equipment in your home, then turn off the main power supply. This is done to avoid an electrical fire before things get too out of hand.

Out With the Old in With the New

Your house has a reliance on a consistent flow of energy, and a good circuit breaker panel will keep it happy. There is no need to panic if you keep on top of all potential breaker problems. Keep all of your equipment effective, and your home will be safe.
