How to Get Extra Cash for Your Vacation

Save and Travel Now

It’s summer vacation season, and so many people are either waiting for their vacation to arrive because they’ve already booked it, or looking at last minute flights for a good deal. Either way, a vacation is an optimal time to relax, read books, explore and have fun.

However, vacations can be expensive. Not only do you have to pay for flights and the hotel, but you also have to budget for food, drink and spending money. Trying to decide whether you have enough spending money can be the complete opposite of everything a vacation can stand for. How do you counter such stresses? Here’s a guide on how to get extra cash for your holiday.

Create a Budget

Create a budget and spending plan beforehand. Look online and research how much food and drink costs, and how much you’re willing to spend for breakfast, lunch and dinner; also see whether your hotel provides appliances for you cook meals if you don’t wish to eat out for every meal. If it’s hot, consider eating lunch in your hotel room; this also provides a break from the sun. Factor in tourist attractions you wish to see, and everyday spending money on ice cream, etc.

Once you’ve created a budget plan, stick to it. The last thing you want to do is accidentally spend all your money at the beginning of the vacation. You also need to factor in accidents and unforeseen circumstances such as missed or delayed flights.

Cancel Memberships

To the months leading to your vacation, make sure you cut down on spending and pocket the money you save. You can start doing so by canceling memberships you no longer use but are too lazy unsubscribe to. This can be the gym, cable, or even Netflix. It doesn’t matter if the membership is only $10 a month; in the long run, you could save enough money that’ll pay for a meal out.

Eat Out Less

Many of us eat out, far more than we should. Not only is it healthier to make a family meal in our own homes, but it’s also cheaper. Therefore, it’s time to break out the saucepans and chopping boards and save a few dollars in the months leading up to your vacation. You should also bring lunch to work rather than spending money eating out.

Sell Unwanted Items

Kill two birds at once, and sell your unwanted items while decluttering your house. Hold a garage sale, put your items on eBay, or ask your friends if they’re interested in clothing or items of furniture they’ve always had their eye on. What may be useless to you, could be useful to someone else. Therefore, sell your unwanted gift cards at ejgiftcards.com, furniture on eBay or Facebook’s marketplace, or DVDs, books and CDs on Amazon.

Eat Everything in the Cupboards

Many of us are guilty of opening the fridge, freezer and cupboards and believing there’s nothing in there. However, you’d be surprised at what you can get out of your pantry! Therefore, every other week, vow to eat as much as you can without doing a weekly shop. Doing so will not lessen your food waste, but it will also stop you from overspending on food. When having a ‘pantry week,’ put the money you’ve saved into a separate account so you don’t accidentally spend it elsewhere.
