A midlife crisis can occur in men and women. The crisis may be slightly different when comparing the two, but no one is exempt from experiencing a midlife crisis.

This crisis is one that involves a lot of emotions and includes an identity crisis or a crisis of self – confidence.  A midlife crisis can occur when between the ages of 30 and 50. There are many different marriage problems either Spouse can experience during this time.

Here is a little insight on the problems that can occur with a midlife crisis and how to handle them.

First of all, what is a Midlife crisis?

Midlife crisis is a time of life when people transition from being young people to being older adults.

Men and women experience the crisis differently. It is when men and women realize that at a certain stage of their life they have not achieved a great deal of what they expected.

These signs represent danger, on many levels.  You can help a loved one survive if you recognize the signs.

  1. HEALTH SCARES :

First of all, people facing a midlife crisis may start worrying about their health. They may run to the nearest clinic at the slightest hint of an illness.

  1. TOUGH QUESTIONS :

Raising tough questions. Because they are at life’s crossroads, people will start asking themselves "Who am I, where am I going in my Career?

  1. COMPARISONS :

They will start to compare themselves to others and as a result, depression may set – in, because they may resent that they are not as successful as others appear.

 

  1. ACKNOWLEDGING TIME :

They will have, in addition, a sense of time flying. They may suddenly feel discouraged with their lives and routines.

  1. FOCUS ON APPEARANCE :

People start feeling dissatisfied with their looks because they are conscious of getting older.

The obsession may drive them to try numerous weight loss programs.

  1. ASSIGNING BLAME :

They start to grouse over trivial matters because they feel confused about their lives. They indulge the petty grievances, like accusing spouses or friends, trying to malign or undermine them.

 

7) FEELING TIDE DOWN :

They feel stuck in a rut, with no way to improve their situations.  They believe that they have no options for a better future.

8) CAREER CHANGE :

They feel that their jobs are dreary and want to change them. They may want to follow their passions and lunch Careers that they did not get a chance to accomplish before.

9) DEPRESSION :

Middle-aged persons may also experience depression because they realize that they are getting older. The thought of death may scare them. Depression can include, sadness, hopelessness, helplessness, pessimism, lack of energy, fatigue, inability to focus or make decisions, unusual sleep patterns, weight loss and weight gain.

10) HAVING AFFAIRS :

Finally, they may crave romantic attention.The boredom that sometimes accompanies years of marriage, may overwhelm them. They may seek new partners.

WHAT CAUSES A MIDLIFE CRISIS :

First of all, people may face them, because of external factors.       Work stress may prompt them to wonder why they have not progressed in their Careers.

 

Unresolved issues are another trigger. People may display odd behavior because they have unmet needs.                                          

Being middle-aged and having huge mortgages to pay is frightening and stressful, it can make people walk away from family and other responsibilities.

Coping with the death of a loved one compounds a midlife crisis. Finally, those with self – esteem issues may find it hard to transit from young adulthood to midlife.

In conclusion, a midlife crisis is a trying period of one’s life, but you can overcome it with effort, determination, and self – belief!
