Most of us are doing everything from home nowadays. Our environment plays a significant role in mood regulation, and it can be difficult for some of our family members to "get-up-and-go" without an organized home. The organization isn't the only step to a beautiful house; there are plenty of other things you can do to create a space that optimizes your family's well-being.
Let the Light Shine In
Humans cannot produce their vitamin D, with its only natural source being the sun's rays. Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of phosphate and calcium in the body, which is essential in keeping our teeth, bones, and muscles healthy. We'll also feel down without the warm sun, so be sure to open up your curtains and let the light shine in. When the days become shorter during the winter, use a LED light from BIOS lighting because they closely mimic natural light.
Declutter and Organize
Nothing should go into your home if it doesn't promote well-being. For example, if you have 200 articles of clothing, you should do your best to sort through these items to take up space in your mind. Cleaning your room impacts your mental health because you're a reflection of our environment. However, that doesn't mean your children's toys or that bookshelf full of novels is messy. Fresh and tidy could mean filling your home with experiences.
Buy Green Plants and Colorful Flowers
Unless you have an allergy, buying flowers and plants can benefit your overall mood. Not only does bringing nature inside make your home smell nice, but it will also improve air quality and provide restful sleep. Even fake greenery can have the same effect on your mind, just not the nose. When humans see green leaves, it reminds them of nature's beauty and gives them a hint of happiness. Plus, lush plants serve as great decorative items throughout the home.
Create a Wellness Playlist
Whether you're a big music person or a casual listener, hearing your favorite songs will help you overcome a whole host of issues. You don't need to listen to a classical piano symphony or white noise to benefit. Heavy metal can elicit the same reaction in the brain as calmer music as long as it inspires the listener. Use music to get pumped for the workday or to stay focused on a difficult task. There's a playlist for almost any situation, genre, or mood!
Turn the Thermostat Up, or Down
If you've noticed, you're too hot or too cold at any time, that means your body has to compensate to make sure you're comfortable. Temperature regulation burns calories but not enough to be beneficial to your waist. It will, however, put a damper on your mood and concentration. It will be challenging to turn the thermostat to a temperature where everyone is content, but you can install a thermostat that controls how hot or cold individual rooms are.
Focus on Air Quality
Opening up your windows in the summer will provide fantastic air quality in your home, but what happens when winter rears its head? After a few days of keeping your windows closed, your home can become dry and stuffy, but you can purchase an air purifier or a humidifier to maintain moisture in the house. Air purification is available for every budget and need, and most of them plug into a regular wall socket. Portable humidifiers are also inexpensive and easy to come by.
Separate Relaxation and Work
It's common for families to use one space as a multi-purpose room because it allows every member to take advantage of it. Problems will arise when bills need to be paid, homework is left unfinished, or office work piles up. Instead of combining rooms, like the kitchen as a homework station, create separate rooms specific to work so focus doesn't wane. If you can't spare the space, try to designate a particular corner or area that is only dedicated to getting work done.
