On February 27th, Hearts for San Diego celebrated their first anniversary with a Bottomless Bubbles & Brunch at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery in La Jolla. Hearts for San Diego is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that assists local charities by organizing FUNdraising events and activities on their behalf to provide them with extra breathing room so they can stay focused on their missions. This sold– out celebration was attended by local nonprofits, businesses and community members who share a passion for paying it forward. Guests enjoyed a delicious brunch buffet and mimosa juice bar, snapped photos in the SnapShotz SD Photobooth and won lots of great items through the prize wheel, raffle and silent auction. The Charity Ball is one of San Diego’s grand traditions of commitment to the children of our community. For more than a century, the volunteer–organized Charity Ball has brought together community leaders and supporters for a night of elegance and entertainment. It is one special evening, but the night has a lasting impact on the children of our region. Heart of Gold, the 107th Anniversary Charity Ball, honored Evelyn and Ernest Rady, celebrated their Canadian heritage and raised funds to support the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) at Rady Children’s Hospital, which provides comprehensive medical, mental and behavioral health services for children and adolescents in San Diego.

The 19th annual Heart of San Diego Gala raised funds for cardiovascular research and patient care at UC San Diego Health’s Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, which is ranked among the top 25 best hospitals in "Cardiology and Heart Surgery" by U.S. News and World Report. Proceeds from the black–tie event, which was held at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, will help UC San Diego Health usher in revolutionary new treatments and continue excelling as a leader of cardiovascular care. The event included a cocktail reception, dinner and dancing to Wayne Foster Music and Entertainment. The keynote speaker at this year’s event was Simon Keith, a former soccer player and the first athlete in the world to play professional sports after undergoing a heart transplant surgery.

The Women’s Auxiliary of Seacrest Village Retirement Communities held its 38th Annual Gala, Silver Screen, at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla. The event was attended by 350 guests and raised over $450,000 to be used for the provision of charitable care for those residents who, many due to illness or injury, have exhausted their financial resources and have nowhere else to turn for housing and healthcare. Funds raised will also be invested in a special project: Seacrest Village TV (SVTV). SVTV will be a dedicated TV Channel that will allow every resident on the Encinitas and Rancho Bernardo campuses, regardless of physical ability, to participate in services in the synagogue, enjoy live music and theater being performed on campus and feel the warmth and connection of these events.

Nearly 450 people came together to share stories, smiles and the occasional tear at the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Luncheon. Attendees raised $350,000 with funds still being counted and submitted. The room was overflowing with guests and donations. The luncheon is the celebratory event for the American Heart Association’s annual Go Red campaign. It focused on three areas to support the fight against heart disease in women: heightening awareness of the issue, creating a passionate call–to–action and generating funds to support education and research.
