Spring and Summer Fashion Tips and Trends
Hot Trends This Spring Bring Throwback to 80’s and Early 90’s
Jaquelyn Wahidi is one of San Diego’s top stylists we introduced in our Top Fashion Stylists’ story at the beginning of the year. Just like her professional skills and fashion curiosity put her on the top of FINE Magazine’s list, her clients call Jaquelyn first when it’s time to go shopping, add some items to refresh their closet, or create different outfits for the upcoming season. That is why we decided to spend a couple of hours with Jaquelyn Wahidi to chat about fashion news, trends and ideas for the spring.

"Spring is the season to go shopping because a lot of stores get new inventory and lots of women are getting excited about dresses for spring, florals, and other patterns. It’s also a popular season for closet cleaning where people like to take everything out and get it nice and organized. They want to shop and they want to get their closets organized", explains Jaquelyn.
For fashion stylists, the spring brings a different kind of blossom, a blooming of the newest and freshest ideas for their clients’ outfits or inquiries from ladies looking for a new look or those who want to know which colors and trends will rule this season.
"Some people just want to update their wardrobe with a few pieces during spring months, some are very interested in what’s hot and what will look good, and some don’t care about anything as long as it looks good on them," Jaquelyn shared the most common reasons for going spring browsing.
Jaquelyn revealed some trends that are going to explode:
Statement Sleeves

On dresses, tops, shirts, T-shirts, look for an unusual, unique, and different pair of sleeves. Statement sleeves are very hot now, as well as styles like puffy shoulders, huge balloon sleeves, and according to Jaquelyn: "It’s kind of like 80’s, early 90’s throwback type of thing going on this spring".
Hot Colors - UltraViolet, Hot Pink, and Yellow

When it comes to colors that will dominate this spring and summer opt for the ultraviolet purple, yellow, and hot pink pieces. Ultraviolet has a big comeback and we can see it everywhere, from dresses, womens designer tops, and shoes, to various make-up favorites this season. Not only is this color bold and eye-catching, but it also has a touch of vibrancy and moodiness to it.
Bags – Small Signature Bags and Embroidered Bags

Having a smaller bag right now is still very trendy, especially if it’s a designer bag like Gucci, Channel, or Dior. Crazy designs, embellished and embroidered bags are the seasons’ hit among the trendsetters, so make sure to get creative with patching some cute appliqué designs yourself or get a cute new one that will complete your spring look.
High Waist, Stripes and Primary Colors Dominate the Swimwear

If you’re in search of a new bathing suit this summer, you can’t go wrong with a high-waist one-piece or a bikini. Jaquelyn mentions that after the 80s and 90s spring, swimwear will more likely go towards the 60s directions with the high waist, the bustier tops, retro silhouettes, and lots of stripes. Primary colors like red, blue, and yellow are the hottest to wear on the beach this summer, so jump into your favorite new piece selected in one of those three colors.

Platform Shoes Bring Back the Spice Girls Era
Even though tennis shoes are still very popular to match with long skirts and dresses, platform shoes and chunky wedges are coming back on women’s feet in the upcoming months. Leaving you with the same comfort as the sneakers, platforms, and wedges will accentuate your 80’s style, and make you a little taller. Known for being the perfect beachwear, your summer slides are once again going to be very popular this summer. If you need a new pair, look for cute and fashionable ones as they can take you from the beach straight to the restaurant.
After sharing with us all of her fashion ideas for the seasons ahead, Jaquelyn gave us one piece of advice to take with us every time we go shopping, no matter what season it is. It’s her 3 on-3 test and she explains it like this: "When you go shopping and you find something you like that you want to buy, first think of three ways that you can wear that with and to match it with. Then think of three places you are going to wear it and how that particular piece fits your lifestyle. This way you can be sure this will be a good buy for you."
Since spring and summer go hand in hand in Southern California and they replace each other out quickly, all the styles trending this spring will be sticking around throughout the summer, so go with anything on this list you like and wear your good mood with it at all times.
