There are few things a person can do that are braver than being a soldier. Unfortunately, that job comes with very real risks and, as American involvement in overseas conflicts continues, more and more of our brave servicemen and women are coming home mentally and physically wounded. One group is doing what it can to ease the pain for our men and women in uniform who have been injured while serving.
Operation Rebound is one of several programs operating under the umbrella of the CAF or the Challenged Athletes Foundation. While the CAF as a whole has many groups which all do amazing work assisting people with physical disabilities to lead healthy, fun and active lives, Operation Rebound focuses specifically on American soldiers and first responders who have been injured in the line of duty.
The group believes that through creating a strong sense of community and striving for a common goal, they can help our wounded soldiers both overcome the pain of their injuries as well as ease their transition back into civilian life. They do this by getting veterans involved in a myriad of sports. From skiing to swimming to running, Operation Rebound believes that these veterans can do it all. Time and time again, they have.
On January 31st, the CAF and Operation Rebound are teaming up to host the first Surf and Bocce Fundraiser and Awards Luncheon at the Hilton Garden Inn along Carlsbad Beach at 6450 Carlsbad Blvd. The organizers say that the event is designed to get all members of the community, as well as those from the other CAF organizations, involved in raising awareness about disabled soldiers.
The event will be a fundraiser to continue Operation Rebound’s work in assisting the wounded veterans though grants for the specialized equipment many of these veterans need. The luncheon will also recognize members of Operation Rebound for the progress they have made and the good they have done in helping these men and women who have fought and bled for our freedom. All of the proceeds that are raised will go directly to Operation Rebound.

The Challenged Athletes Foundation works with a group of people who are often forgotten by the general population. It's just as important for people with disabilities to feel as though they can achieve what they want and be an athlete as it is for someone with an able body.
