Terrible Mistakes You Don’t Want To Make With Your Aircon

It’s the middle of summer, and you are sweating profusely. You look around for an excellent spot to rest your weary head, but there is none in sight. The only thing that can soothe this heatwave is an air conditioner. But do you know how it works? Do you know what mistakes people make with their aircon?

Here are terrible mistakes that people make with their aircon:

1. Not Having It Serviced Regularly

It would be best if you had your system checked regularly by the best aircon servicing company. If it’s not serviced annually, the components may break down over time and lead to more significant issues with energy efficiency and cost of operation.

2. Not Cleaning Or Changing The Filters

After every two months or after using your air conditioner for a certain amount of time, change the filters. This is because dust and other particles can get stuck in the filter, leading to an AC breakdown.

Dust and dirt are just some of the things that can clog up your system and prevent it from working efficiently. Therefore, it would be best to keep your AC in check by removing debris within it so no future problems arise.

3. Setting Your Thermostat Too Loosely

Setting your thermostat too loosely may cause many problems. One of them is that the AC will find it challenging to regulate temperatures within an acceptable range. As a result, you’ll either end up running the unit all day long and wasting energy or turn it off entirely during scorching days because of how hard it’s working.

4. Staying Without Blinds Or Curtains

Failing to block the sun’s rays from heating your house can lead to an increase in energy costs. That’s because natural light is more robust than artificial light, which means that you’ll need more electricity powering a space heater than if it were dark out.

It will also make for bad air quality inside your home, especially during high pollen seasons when there may be severe respiratory issues outdoors. To combat this problem, install blinds or curtains throughout your windows and doors so that they are closed at all times (even during the day).

5. Closing Windows

It’s easy to forget about your windows when you’re focused on the air conditioning unit. But if you don’t correctly seal them, there won’t be any relief from the heat, and it will cost a lot more money in cooling costs for nothing.

6. Leaving The AC On When No One Is Home

Many people go on vacation and leave the air conditioner running. This is a huge mistake because it can lead to mold growth, water damage, or other issues that will cost you more money in repairs later on down the line. Instead, turn off your air conditioning unit if no one is at home after about three hours.

7. Setting A Very Low Temperature

Not having a comfortable temperature in your home can lead to health problems, decreased productivity, and poor quality of work. Try setting the thermostat at least ten degrees higher than you usually do for maximum comfort throughout your entire day. This will also keep heating bills down because it takes more energy to produce heat than cool air.

8. Ignoring Your Filter

Air filters are the unsung heroes of many households. They help clean up your air and take care of dust particles and other pollutants that would otherwise harm you if they were inhaled or ingested.

You should have a new filter every three months for proper aeration and elimination of any odors which may exist within your home. But it’s not just about having an air filter - you also need to make sure it gives off enough airflow for your needs.

If there isn’t enough flow through the filter, it will be useless because the outside particles will still contact you anyway. Most people will go years without realizing their AC unit doesn’t provide sufficient airflow because this is an issue that becomes more prominent as time goes on.

For example, you may notice a difference in how much dust accumulates when you turn off the AC for a while - and if your family has any allergies or other sensitivities, this will become even more of an essential factor to consider.

You can test it by turning the unit on without anyone inside sleeping under it. Then, wait for about five minutes before coming back to check the filter area and see any particles left behind. If so, you should clean them with a vacuum before replacing the filters with new ones.

Final Words

These are but a few mistakes you should avoid if you want your aircon system to work smoothly and efficiently for years to come.
