The Cardiff Kook Run 5k, 10k and Costume Contest

The fabulous Cardiff Kook Run is a celebration of one of San Diego’s greatest beachside communities, as well as a great way to start off Super Bowl Sunday. Enjoy a fun day running alongside kooky, costumed runners with a beautiful view! With outlooks of popular surf breaks on the way there and back, there is a lot of scenery to enjoy, including Cardiff State Beach. The gorgeous sights are paired with a sea of hundreds of costumes running along with you to help keep you on track. The Cardiff Kook Run starts and finishes at the famous "Encinitas" sign and passes by the Cardiff Kook statue on Coast Hwy 101. 

Steve Lebhertz and Seth Brewer came up with the idea for this run because they felt everyone should see this part of San Diego. Thanks to them, runners can participate in the 5k or 10k Cardiff Kook Run and associated costume contest. The race starts at 7:00 am on February 7th, 2016 at 505 S Coast Highway 101, Encinitas, CA 92024 for $44 and $54. First place winners receive an award of $2,000, second place winners receive $1,000 and third place winners receive $750 dollars. 

Runners can pick up their bib and race shirt at Road Runners Sports on Thursday, Friday or Saturday so that they don’t have to wait in a crowded line on race day. As an incentive, runners are given 10% off merchandise to at the Road Runners Sports shop. 

The costume contest participants will need to check in at the costume contest registration by 8 am; the contest will follow immediately after the race. The race moderators will award the top three costumes that have displayed the most Cardiff Kook Spirit. Keep in mind that running attire does not count as a costume and participants must be present at the time of the awards ceremony.
