Top 3 Golf Courses in Southern San Diego as Voted by YOU!

After all of the voting and nominating, we finally have the Top 3 San Diego golf courses! Not to be confused with our already revealed top golf courses of North County, these courses are all south of Del Mar. Here are the top three winners for best golf courses in southern San Diego.

 

1) Torrey Pines Golf Course

Known for being a "golfer’s paradise," it’s no wonder that Torrey Pines Golf Course made the list. It has long been recognized as one of the nation's best golf facilities. This course can be challenging with its breathtaking location right on the coast. The view is amazing, with incredible scenes of the La Jolla coastline, while also offering challenges to the player. Fog, rain and wind can often sweep the course and test the golfer’s skills. The course is designed by course architect William P. Bell. It offers two eighteen hole Championship courses that have tight fairways, trees and bunkers. Facilities include a driving range, practice putting greens, food and beverage carts and a restaurant at the Lodge. Rees Jones remodeled the South Course in 2001, and since then it has been selected to host the 2021 United States Open Championship. 

 

2) San Diego Country Club

San Diego Country Club is the oldest country club is San Diego and the only private course in the Southern San Diego County area. It caters to golf for the family. Every month they hold family–style fun, such as a holiday party, Easter egg hunt or lessons for younger kids. Located in Chula Vista, it is celebrated for its perfect fairways, deep bunkers and demanding greens. Any caliber of player can revel in the Watson/Bell classic design. 

Individual membership offers unlimited golf, practice facilities and all club privileges with an ownership interest in the club and entitlement to vote. There is a full range of dining facilities, such as an informal barbecue on the courtyard, to an elegant main dining room. Many annual and social events are available for members to attend, like the Sweetheart Valentine's Dinner and Easter Brunch paired with a children's egg hunt. This Country Club definitely wants guests to feel comfortable and at home in their facility. 

 

3) Mission Trails Golf Course

This golf course is located ten miles from downtown San Diego, near San Diego State University and below Cowles Mountain. Mission Trails Golf Course has a William Bell design that features a nice blend of scenery; you can see the valley with the first nine holes, all the way to the shores of Lake Murray. Back in 1990, a young Tiger Woods established his legacy there by winning the Optimist Junior World Championship. 

There are three different clubs at this course: the men’s club, the senior men’s club and the women’s golf club. Each club plays on different days of the week. There are two tournaments per month and green fee discounts. This club can also plan corporate events, weddings, reunions and much more. They have a banquet room and bar that is perfect for networking and meetings.
