Keeping People Safe Around Water for Family Fun

It always makes sense to stay safe around water. Of course, pools, ponds, and even the bathroom have their uses. But there is an inherent danger for unsupervised children. So, from covers to non-slip flooring, here are some safety suggestions for worry-free family fun.

Prevent Accidental Falling

It’s actually pretty easy to fall into a pool or pond. If you can swim, it usually isn’t a problem unless the water is freezing. However, young children, the elderly, and poor swimmers are at risk. The last thing anyone wants is for the family pool to be ruined by tragic memories when it should be a place of fun ones. Fortunately, all it takes is something like glass pool fencing to prevent someone from taking a tumble. It’s cheap and easy but also highly effective.

Cover the Pool or Pond

It isn’t always possible to add fencing around a body of water, such as a pond and even some pools. So what can you do? Bespoke covers are an excellent way to add an extra layer of safety. You can have shaped covers made for ponds and larger bodies. And, of course, there are tons of services offering excellent pool coverings. You can also install solid automated pool covers, so there’s no more worrying about someone getting trapped underneath a fabric cover.

Stay Safe Around Water with Signage

Sometimes people do silly things. That’s just a fact of life. Water-based foolery accounts for a large percentage of accidents all over the world. Yet, there are over 4,000 accidental drownings in the US alone each year. However, most people will heed warnings, and all it takes is some sensible signage as a part of your swimming pool maintenance plan. No running, no diving, and even no swimming signs will help. And they will pass liability should something terrible happen.

Add Non-Slip Pavers

Water is slippery! We all know that.  Poolside slipping accounts for the majority of accidents at family swimming pools. You can slip, get in and out of the pool, and stand beside it. If someone falls the wrong way, it can be hazardous. But there is an easy solution. Installing non-slip pavers around the pool can help reduce the chance of someone slipping on wet stones or tiles. They are a little uncomfortable on your feet, but it’s a small cost for improving poolside safety!

Keep the Area Well-Lit

There’s no wrong time for fun in the pool or relaxing beside the pond in your backyard. Nighttime garden fun offers a unique experience over the daytime. There’s a calmer ambiance in the pool, and you can spot nocturnal creatures around larger bodies of water. However, the darkness introduces the chance of an accident. Pool and garden lighting reduces the chances of an accident. It also enhances the atmosphere around the family swimming pool or pond.

Fencing to prevent accidental falling is a simple but effective way to stay safe around water. Simple signage can also warn others of the dangers around a pool or pond. If you enjoy night time swimming, keeping the area well-lit provides ambience while keeping everyone safer.
