If there’s anything "It’s a Wonderful Life Taught Us," it’s that life is not made up by what we get out of it, but what we give to it. All the riches in the world cannot compare to the love of family and warmth of community.
As the cooler temperatures come to the coast and the valleys, San Diego is preparing for the busy holiday season, which kicks off with a Thanksgiving feast and doesn’t stop until the ball drops into the New Year. So before we leap in to this joyous time of year, FINE Magazine decided to set aside this issue to celebrate a season of giving.
This month, we unveil Leonard Simpson’s "Best Dressed"—some of the most generous and inspirational philanthropists in the county—and we give a nod to prostate cancer awareness by wishing our readers a Happy "Movember." We also offer floral and decorating guides to set the best table in town, and reveal the secret to keeping your kitchen sparkling clean. (Psst—it involves letting someone else prepare the gourmet feast.)
So before the hectic holiday schedule sets in—and before we see James Stewart too many times to learn anything from him—let’s remember what really matters this time of year. As Arthur Ashe said: "From what we get, we can make a living; what we give, however, makes a life."
