FINE magazine October 2012

Many philosophers have proposed different paths to enlightenment. They have suggested that meditation, isolation and asceticism lead to a consciousness in which everything is perceived as one.

But I’m drawn to Ken Kesey’s view: "It isn’t by getting out of the world that we become enlightened, but by getting into the world … by getting so tuned in that we can ride the waves of our existence and never get tossed because we become the waves."

The world is, after all, an amazing place. And in the past century, even the oceans seem to have receded as communication has advanced. In a moment, I can connect with friends in London and Paris, browse the fashion houses of Milan and marvel at the latest trends in Tokyo.

In-line with the international scene, our October issue unveils fashion, home designs, travel and culinary flavors from around the globe. This "village" issue celebrates a myriad of cultures and traditions, from resorts in Bali and the Baja Peninsula, to international home and beauty trends available right here in San Diego. It’s a global affair that is sure to draw you in.
