Make delicious, fresh tacos with delicious, fresh tortillas without using a tortilla press. Easy and fun, enjoy these tortillas! This recipe serves six.
Ingredients
2 cups masa flour (corn tortilla mix)
½ teaspoon Kosher salt
1½ cups water, or more if needed, heated until warm to the touch
Instructions
Combine the masa, salt, and water in a large bowl and stir together until a dough begins to form. You want the dough to resemble play dough consistency.
Cut out 2 6 inch circles of parchment paper and set aside. Heat a large skillet over medium high heat. Roll a 1.5-inch ball of dough. Place dough ball on top of one of the parchment circles then place the second circle on top.
Press the dough ball into a 5-6-inch circle using a heavy pot or other flat-surfaced item. Carefully remove the top piece of parchment paper. If the dough sticks, it is too wet--add an additional Tablespoon or two of masa. If it crumbles, it is too dry--add a Tablespoon or two of water.
Leave the bottom sheet of parchment paper on. Place the tortilla, parchment side up, onto the hot skillet. Leave for about 30 seconds, remove top piece of parchment paper and continue to cook on the same side for an additional minute, or until brown spots begin to form. Flip and cook an additional 30 seconds on the other side.
