30 Years of Excellence at the Southern California Ballet

On April 23rd, Southern California Ballet celebrated 30 years of excellence at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts. The evening began with a reception where former dancers, teachers, volunteers, and board members reunited and gathered to reminisce. Some dancers recalled dancing at the studio when they were 3 years old, back when it first opened. At 7:00pm a public performance was presented featuring alumni, returning guests, SCB company members, and academy dancers. The evening especially paid tribute to the 30 year directorship of Sylvia Palmer-Zetler, a former dancer with the National Ballet of Canada. Many of Ms. Palmer-Zetler’s students have enjoyed successful professional dance careers in the states, on Broadway, and internationally.

The first act of the night featured revivals of Ms. Palmer-Zetler’s Peter and the Wolf, and Gregory Dawson’s In the Midst of a Southern Storm. The second act featured virtuoso variations and duets from Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Flames of Paris, Le Corsaire, and more.
