5 Tips For Making Your Living Room Spectacular

After a long year of staring at the same four walls thanks to the pandemic, 2021 brings with it the opportunity to transform our homes back into a cozy, relaxing sanctuary that's strictly for less work and more play.

With that in mind, it's probably been a while since you took a good look at your living room and how space is perhaps no longer working for you.

So, if you're finding your home a bit lackluster, we're sharing five tips to help you transform your living room to make it feel like new.

1. Create a mood with color

One of the quickest ways to transform your space is by switching up the colors. There is a lot of psychology behind the best colors to use in each room of the house, with greens, reds, and purples coming up top for the living room.

The color of the living room will affect how the space has interacted with you and your guests. You can also use lighter shades to give the impression of a more spacious area, so finding the balance between mood and light will create the perfect style for your home.

2. Trimwork makes the dreamwork.

While new properties don't offer many unique characters, adding your trim work to the room can change the look and feel. A faux beamed ceiling or lintels above windows can add texture and personality to a blank canvas. It's also a great way of creating a seamless link between walls and the ceiling.

3. Windows: To dress or undress?

Window treatments can make a massive difference in the living room. Curtains that are too short often make the room look a little unfinished while going too heavy and bold can create a dark and stuffy feel if you're struggling to find the perfect fabric for your windows. There's always the option of going without.

Wooden blinds or shutters – like those offered by Shutters Up on shuttersup.co.uk, for example - are perfect for maintaining the room's openness while also providing privacy and shade.

4. Build from the ground up

According to USA Today, hardwood floors are incredibly desirable but can be hard to maintain in a busy home. That's why many people combine this flooring with area rugs to create a contemporary yet cozy style for the living room.

Alternatively, carpets work perfectly for creating a neutral base for colorful furniture, or the opposite – a bright base for neutral furnishings.

5. Feature the family

Not all feature walls have to be wallpaper or paneling. Creating a quirky gallery wall filled with family memories and playful prints helps add character to space. There are plenty of templates online to help you get started with a gallery wall, too. It's a good idea to incorporate a color scheme and use various frames in different sizes to create an exciting feature. For the other three walls, please keep it simple as not to overcrowd the room.
