AquaVie: In San Diego Review

In the heart of downtown San Diego, AquaVie offers a retreat that fuses luxury and wellness with a spa and fitness club. The traffic of Broadway feels a million miles away at the downtown sanctuary. The spa is soothing and modern, incorporating both cutting edge advancements and locally sourced, small-batch products. With a variety of skincare and body treatments, there are plenty of options to relax, unwind, and feel your best.

Once you valet (complimentary with spa treatment) and check in to get your robe and slippers, head to the locker room to begin your "me time." The locker rooms include a steam room and dry sauna, along with showers, keyless lockers, and amenities.

My favorite spa treatment has always been massage, whether a deep tissue sports massage to correct pain points or a gentle aromatherapy massage to help me relax mentally as well as physically. At AquaVie, I opted for one of their most popular massages, the 50-minute Elevated Wellness Massage. This massage is customizable based on your needs and preferences that day. Several different massage techniques are integrated and you can choose from a selection of aromatherapeutic oils. I loved the Bergamot Orange for an uplifting scent.

If you prefer skin treatments, indulge in the new Intraceuticals Oxygen Facial at AquaVie. Using Hyperbaric Oxygen to promote the delivery of Intraceuticals’ professional strength serum, skin is hydrated and visually plumped, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. These facials are effective, yet pampering, working to hydrate, rejuvenate, and de-stress the skin. AquaVie is currently the only spa in San Diego to offer these treatments! Try the AquaVie Radiance Facial, which delivers both hyaluronic acid and custom anti-aging active ingredients deep into the skin’s structural layers. A methodical layering technique achieves deep hydration and a lustrous glow.

For a full-body rejuvenation, try the new spring signature treatment Organic Blueberry Sugar Scrub. Using antioxidant-rich blueberries packed with Vitamin A, C, and E, blended with natural sugar cane, crystals, and soy, this treatment buffs away dry skin then nourishes with an apricot body oil application. Aqua Vie uses some local beauty products as well, including Beaute Nouveau. You can even take the product home with you to feel spa beautiful every single day. I’m currently obsessed with their Citron Dream Shave Scrub, perfect for shaving, it exfoliates and also cleanses the skin with a base of whipped Goat Milk & Honey Soap. Cleanse, exfoliate, shave... all at the same time. What could be better than that? The dreamy scent of citrus fruits is a sweet and bright mix of lemon, lime, pink grapefruit, sweet orange, and tangerine essentials oils. One of the things I love about Beaute Nouveau is how simple and pure the ingredients are. The shave scrub, for example, only consists of pure cane sugar, goat milk soap, distilled water, honey, and essential oils.

With your spa treatment, you also get to enjoy the fitness center and rooftop pool. The fitness center includes more than 200 machines for cardio, circuit-training, and strength-extension plus two group exercise rooms with classes like yoga, barre, and sculpting. Check out their newest class, Dhurva Yoga which incorporates core strengthening accompanied by a unique, artistic flow using the Dhurva YogiStick. Upon the roof, take in the view along with a heated lap pool along with additional fitness equipment and spin classes. If you prefer to continue to relax, enjoy the hot tub and a lounge area where servers will bring you cocktails or lunch. Try the Seafood Cobb with Day Boat Sea Sallops, Baja Prawn, King Crab, Papaya Chutney, Avocado, Bean Sprout, and a Mango Miso Dressing paired with a White Peach Bellini.
