Del Mar Tequila Classic Event Recap!

On Thursday, May 19th, the 2nd annual Del Mar Tequila Classic event wowed the Del Mar Plaza! Featuring delicious authentic tequila, warm Mexican food, and live entertainment, this was a can't miss event fun for everyone over twenty-one. 

The Del Mar Tequila Classic aided the Veterans Research Alliance, a charity dedicated to helping local US veterans. The Veterans Research Alliance received the funds generated from the live and silent auctions, which featured items donated by the San Diego Symphony, Marine Corps Recruit Depot Museum Gift Shop, Cherub Marketing, Spa Blue Del Mar, Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Liberty Tobacco, Big Dog Custom Bartending, San Diego Polo Club, Loma Santa Fe Country Club, Carol Gray, and Alex Ivanovich. All of these amazing donors came out to support the Veterans Research Alliance!

The night was emceed by Steve Lewendowski of the Veterans Research Alliance, and he served as our auctioneer! Our live mariachi music was provided by Mariachi Del Mar. Productions with DJ Dan performed intermittently throughout the evening, while the Violet Vixens Dance Troop gave a show-stopping performance later in the evening!

But of course, the star of the night was the tequila! Delicious drinks filled the event and kept our guests enjoying themselves all night. The Tequila Classic featured a tequila contest too! In a blind taste test judged by esteemed experts Forrest Cokely, Carlos Ochoa, and Chris Simmons, the Tequila Classic offered two sets of winners: Best in Show and Gold Medal Winners. Our 2016 Best in Show tequilas are Tequila Fortaleza Blanco, Dos Armadillos Tequila Reposado, Dos Armadillos Tequila Anejo, and Dos Armadillos Tequila Extra Anejo. Our 2016 Gold Medal Winners are Cava Antigua for their Blanco, Abreojos for their Reposado, Tequila La Jolla for their Anejo, and Martin San Ramon for their Extra Anejo.

The Tequila Classic featured some delicious stand-out tequila from our awesome vendors. Not sure who your favorite tequila provider was at our tasting? Don't fret! Here are the tequila companies who came out to celebrate at the Del Mar Plaza: Tequila Fortaleza, Mezcal Marques, Cava Antigua Tequila, Sin Riva, Corazon Azul Spirits, Pochteca Liqueres, San Ramon Tequila, Tequila La Jolla, Dos Armadillos, U4rik Vodka Tequila, Grand Leyenda Tequila, AbreOjos Spirits, Alquimia Organic Tequila, and Cosa Salvaje Tequila.

Also providing alcoholic, non-tequila beverages were Novo Brazil Brewery, Nectar Blends Agave Wine, and Estrella Beer from Mark Stein Beverage. OH Juice provided their delicious juice, and Solar Rain happily donated water!

We had some stellar food to pair with our tequila all night long! Food for the Tequila Classic was provided by Pacifica Del Mar, Il Fornaio Del Mar, Rotisserie Affair, Smashburger Del Mar, Deanna's Gluten Free, Jen's Cookies and More, and Tio Leo's Del Mar.

Also coming out to support the Veteran's Research Alliance were our fabulous FINE vendors, who include Couture by the Sea Jewelry, Roden and Fields, Loghman Jewler, Lorna Jane, PS Platinum Properties, Haim Ltd Salon, and Del Mar Art Center. Our stunning flower arrangements were provided by Sunfresh Flowers.

Overall, the Del Mar Tequila Classic was a full-blown, lively affair! Bigger and better than ever, we already can't wait for the 3rd annual Tequila Classic to hit the plaza deck!
