San Diego Blow-Out shine

If you feel like your hair is dull and has lost the last bit of shine you had left, revive it with this coconut/avocado mask.

What you will need:

1 ripe avocado

½ cup of coconut milk

3 tsp of olive oil

Mash the avocado with a spoon until it reaches a smooth consistency. Then add the coconut milk and olive oil and make sure to stir fast to ensure a perfect mixture. Warm the mixture up in a heated pan or pot for 20 seconds before applying to your head and hair. Don't forget to massage the mask into your scalp as well. Leave on for at least 30 minutes, or even overnight, before shampooing it out.

Dry shampoo is great for when you skip a few days of washing your hair and you don't want to show it. However, most dry shampoos come in aerosol cans, which are widely known as being harmful to the environment. An alternative is this one or two ingredient natural dry shampoo.

What you will need:

1 part cornstarch

1 part unsweetened cocoa powder (for brunettes)

1 part cinnamon (for redheads)

small container (clean spice bottle or shallow mason jar)

Pour the cornstarch in your container. If you are blonde, you can stop after this step. Adding in the darker powders will be obvious in your hair. But if you are brunette or redhead, add in the cocoa powder or cinnamon. Close your container and shake until well blended. Apply it to your roots and blend with your fingers or a fluffy powder brush and watch as your new all–natural dry shampoo absorbs the oils completely.

Anyone who has ever tried going lighter knows that it comes with chemical burns on your scalp and fingertips. Lemon juice is the perfect hair lightener and is the oldest trick in the book. No recipe needed for this one. All you need to do is add lemon juice to a spray bottle and spray throughout your hair before going outside. This method may take more than once to see results and may not help you reach platinum blonde, but it is a fun and organic way to bring out beautiful, natural highlights.

San Diego Hair Masks

Having dandruff is nothing to be ashamed of and it happens to the best of us. But there is a natural way to control it!

What you will need:

Half a ginger root

1 tablespoon of lemon juice

1 tablespoon of olive oil

2 cups of water

Spray bottle

Grate your ginger root into two cups of water. You will want to make sure that you are grating the ginger very finely. Bring water to a boil then add the lemon juice and olive oil. Add to your spray bottle and spritz directly onto your scalp, allow dry time then wash with your normal shampoo.

A great way to remove build–up and add a beautiful shine to your hair is with apple cider vinegar. You won't want to apply it straight from the bottle as it is highly acidic.

What you will need:

1/4 cup of unfiltered apple cider vinegar (make sure it contains "The Mother")

3/4 cup of distilled water

Spray bottle

Add the mixture of the two liquids to your spray bottle and shake thoroughly. Because you are using raw apple cider vinegar, it contains live cultures that you want to make sure you are spraying on your scalp and hair. Spritz onto your scalp and massage, then bring down to your ends to ensure it coats every strand of hair. Leave it in for at least five minutes, then rinse. For best results, do this rinse after shampooing and before conditioning. If the smell is too much to bear, add in 10-15 drops of an essential oil of your choice (lavender or peppermint are great).
