Do's and Don't for Radiant Skin While Traveling

Whether it's for work or pleasure, the joy of traveling is most accessible when you feel good inside and out. There is nothing better than stepping off a plane in a foreign land, looking and feeling your best. Coming back from London with a stop in NYC, I realized there is a science to having glowing skin while traveling. Having meetings and photos immediately upon arrival, I honed in on the secrets that help make gorgeous skin look and feel amazing. Here are some of my top tips for looking your best while traveling!

Here are three very important things to avoid when traveling.

SALT Stay away from a salty meal before your flight. The decadent restaurants that line the hallways of airports tempt our emotional side with comfort food. Comfort food is loaded with salt and before a flight, that salt can be the cause of swollen ankles and faces. 

MAKEUP If you could go sans makeup for one day, your skin will thank you! Why? Your skin needs extra moisture on a plane. The air on planes is filled with germs and will ultimately dehydrate the skin. If you can leave the makeup behind, you can supply your skin with greater moisture and protection. 

DRINKING You knew it was coming, and you were hoping it would be overlooked, but when it comes to skin and flying, alcohol is your worst enemy. Dehydrating the skin even more along with taxing the body’s immune system, alcohol is the surest way to step off feeling tired, dried out, and vulnerable to the germs you were exposed to on the plane.

Those are some of the biggest "do nots," but have no fear! We still have a wide variety of helpful tips to make your skin look hydrated and fresh. Add these five tips to your travel routine, and your skin with thank you. 

MOISTURIZE Bring your favorite moisturizer and keep it with you in a handy place. Apply your moisturizer at least once during your flight. Of course, I believe AMEVA’s moisturizer is the best, but you might have another favorite. Make sure your moisturizer does not have excessive chemicals, as they dry the skin out more, making you dependent on the moisturizer. If you are at a loss about your moisturizer, fill a travel size container with olive oil.  Olive oil is a natural cleanser, and you will be glowing without any greasiness at the end of the flight. 

WATER Buy the biggest water you can at the airport gate and drink all of it. Make it your goal. Don’t think, just drink. 

DARK CHOCOLATE I hope this will make up for your sober flight! Yes, bring dark chocolate with at least 70% cacao. This stimulant will enhance your mood, increase blood flow in the body, and supply you with heavy-duty antioxidants that your body loves.  

AISLE SEAT Stretch near the bathroom, do lunges and squats, stand for ten minutes... do whatever it takes to get the blood flowing. Finding movement during a flight without getting you on the ‘no fly list’ is going to limit your swollen ankles and moodiness after dealing with TSA. 

HAPPY PLACE Make sure you have your favorite electronics with you and fully charged to have a happy flight. If you step onto your next flight thinking about it as a way to enjoy your favorite sedentary activities, you might really enjoy it! Bring a book, draw, knit, create a brilliant excel spreadsheet, or fall into a pleasant dream state. Whatever it is that strikes your fancy, set a goal of walking off the plane feeling rested and fresh faced.  

Your body is a cellular genius that is finding balance with everything you present and feed to it. The less stress you give it, the less it has to work to find balance!
