Essential Tips To Prevent Roof Leakage

San Diego Roof Repair

Roof leakage, if not repaired, could lead to a serious damage to the house. If detected at an earlier stage, the problem can be fixed to prevent further roof damages. However, the most difficult part is figuring out the source of leakage. This is the initial stage and must be carefully handled. Unless the underlying cause of leakage is determined, the best solution cannot be sorted out. Try to look for any cracked, curled or missing shingles. These are the primary contenders for causing the roofing problems. Also, it is necessary to inspect the roof in detail and find out the chances of caulking, flashing, or the presence of tent-shaped shingles that may lead to covering of the roof peaks.

Asphalt Shingles – The Single Most Popular Roofing Material Available Presently

When it comes to finding the best roofing materials, nothing can be compared to asphalt shingles. Almost 80% of domestic roofing solutions are carried out using asphalt shingles. After all, these are durable, affordably priced, light in weight, and attractive in appearance when compared to the other roofing materials available. Perkins preferred roofing solutions also recommend the use of asphalt shingles. They are manufactured using the latest technological advancements to provide resistance against natural calamities and offering higher longevity. However, they can also develop some kind of problems, with the passage of time. But, then, these items are easier to get repaired. The shingles that become curled can be easily flattened and re-secured. On the other hand, the old and damaged shingles can be easily replaced with the newer ones, without much investment. On the other hand, asphalt shingles also provide certain warning signals of the upcoming roofing problems that could well be readily perceptible.

Locating The Exact Point Of Leakage

Once you witness leakage from roof, with stains of water on the ceiling, try to sort out the exact location of the leakage. It can be a time consuming and difficult task, but essential to prevent the situation from causing further damage. You need to look for shingles that are missing, cracked, or curled. Remember, the leakage problems arise mostly when shingles butt. They can also happen when the flashing and caulking parts are being compromised. The tent-shaped shingles, also known as end caps, can also cause the leakage. So you must inspect them carefully too.

If the shingles are damaged, i.e. rotten, cracked, or even missing, installing newer ones would be the best and the quickest fixing solution to avail. Removing a damaged shingle would require some effort. You need to carefully lift the edges of the surrounding shingles. Then, be very careful in removing the nails with a pry bar.  Once you successfully remove the nails, the damaged shingle should be able to easily slide out. Now, you must remove the protruding nails and scrape away the cement residue. Also, note: shingles tend to be more pliable during the warm climactic conditions in comparison to cold and wet seasons.
