North Coast Repertory Theatre, which mounted a monster hit last year with Neil Simon’s Chapter Two, is now staging Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Simon's love letter to his early career as a writer for Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows. The production recounts his writing, fighting, and wacky antics during the days of live television when he cavorted with comedy legends such as Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks. Tickets are certain to be flying out the window for this wildly hysterically funny romp!
Directed by Tom Markus, Laughter on the 23rd Floor previews begin Wednesday, October 19th, with opening night on Saturday, October 22nd. There will be a special talkback on Friday, October 28th with the cast and artistic director. The production features Brett Alters (Lucas), Caroline Drage (Helen), David Ellenstein (Max Prince), Phil Johnson (Kenny), Louis Lotorto (Milt), Nicholas Mongiardo-Cooper (Val), Omri Schein (Ira Stone), Amanda Sitton (Carol), and Christopher M Williams (Brian).
Several members of the cast are making their North Coast Rep debut, including Brett Alters and Caroline Drage. Born and raised in San Diego, Alters is an actor and improviser who studied at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Born into a theatrical family, David Ellenstein (Max) has worked in theatres across the country. Film and television credits include over three dozen roles including Star Trek IV, The Practice, Foul Play, Christine Cromwell, Renegade, Eight is Enough, and General Hospital.
Louis Lotorto returns to North Coast Rep, having appeared in two other Neil Simon classics at the Solana Beach staple: Chapter Two as Leo and The Odd Couple as Felix. A native of Seattle, Louis has worked professionally in regional theatre for over 25 years.
