Top 5 Kitchen Trends That Sell Fast in the Market Right Now

Many people say home is where the heart is, and you could also go as far as to say the kitchen is the heart of hearts.  Unlike every other room in the house, kitchens are likely to undergo the most renovations within the entire time frame of an owner or family’s ownership.  Just like living rooms and family rooms need to keep up with entertainment technology, you’ll find that similar concepts apply to the kitchen, in addition to various updates on flooring, counter tops, appliances, and deciding between an island or traditional sink and dish washing setup.

While there are many combinations and designs that may seem overwhelming, you can have fun with your planning and execution.  Use these 5 kitchen trends as inspiration and you’ll be sure to impress your friends and neighbors, while also maximizing your home value.

Kitchen Nooks/Bench Seating

The kitchen nook is an excellent concept for apartments, smaller homes, and even larger estates.  The beauty of it is you can dedicate a corner for more intimate dining or just drinks and games, while keeping a main dining table in your dining area while entertaining more guests.  There are many ways to install benches: you can use pre-built benches; up cycle used wood and take a DIY approach; buy long, cushioned seating; or a buy group of individual matching cushioned seats.  You may want to add some stylish pillows for additional back support against your corner walls. Another fun idea would be to make a smaller version for a kids dining or arts and craft area.

Dark Finishes and Accents

There is something to be said about classic white, off-white, and pale yellow colors for kitchens, but there is no need to feel limited within the constraints of that tradition.  Darker wood finishes on drawers and countertops, such as walnut, provide an elegant and modern appeal that contrasts well with white accents.

You could also use walnut or other darker tones with dark gray or dark blue hues for your walls and accents.  Alternatively, you can opt for white walls and implement bold, vibrant colors for your counters like orange, red, or teal.  It’s all about achieving a balance and not overdoing it with the brighter colors.

Polished Concrete

Many newly build homes are implementing a lot of concrete, and for good reason — it looks beautiful and clean. Consider combining concrete walls and a concrete island with wooden accents to give your kitchen a modern and rustic look.  Alternatively, you can use the same concept but replace the concrete with marble or quartz for a shinier and more elegant appearance.

You can choose one concrete accent wall and keep the others as stucco or tile, or do the opposite and have a tile or marble accent wall juxtaposed with the concrete. Another great feature about concrete is that the mood will dramatically change based on the amount of lighting. Larger windows and ample daylight can feel energizing, or dimmer lights during the evening can feel intimate, cozy, or sophisticated. Whichever route you choose, you’ll wow your guests every time you invite them inside.

Concealed Hood Ranges

Minimalism always exudes elegance, and there are many ways to implement it in your kitchen — even with your stove range. Let’s say you have designed and built the perfect kitchen, but didn’t consider the stove vent system.  Without too much trouble, you can use a similar design to your counters or island and conceal the hood.

It would look like a ceiling on the counter, which matches perfectly and also provides the aesthetic appeal of more geometric symmetry.  You can also take this an extra step and install lighting in this area for better functionality while cooking at night or to enhance the mood for any occasion.

Handle less Drawers and Cupboards

Expanding on the minimalism aesthetic, you can apply this to virtually everything in your kitchen that has a handle to open or close.  This is very likely to become extremely popular over the next few years, so it’s a great idea to adapt early on; especially if you want to maximize your home value for appraisal purposes.

There are many types of handle less designs for your drawers and cupboards, so be sure to shop around and see what looks like the best fit for your kitchen.  You can also do the same for a few major appliances such as your refrigerator, oven, and microwave, which will make your kitchen ready for the future and be completely "smart home" functional.
