Healthy Holiday Apple Crisp

We’re all a little guilty of indulging in too much dessert or straying from our diets around the holidays. So here’s a great apple crisp recipe that captures the spirit of the season while still staying fresh and healthy. It contains no bleached flour, no dairy products and no refined sugar. Happy baking!

Apple Filling

  • 4 cups of apples, peeled, cored and sliced thin
  • 2 tbs quick cooking tapioca
  • 2 tsp of lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Crisp Topping

  • 1 cup coconut flour
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup slivered almonds
  • 3 tbs coconut sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 tbs coconut oil

  1. Preheat oven 350-degrees F
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine apples, quick cooking tapioca, lemon juice, maple syrup, and cinnamon. Mix gently and pour into a 8" x 11" baking dish or pie pan.
  3. In a small mixing bowl, combine ingredients for the Crisp Topping (make sure coconut oil is in a solid state).
  4. Blend with your hands until mixture is crumbly. If it's too dry, add a little more coconut oil.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the Crisp Topping over the apples.
  6. Bake 50-60 minutes, or until apples are tender.
  7. Cool for 45 minutes, serve warm or cool.
