A small mining town in Spain’s northwestern Galicia region has been overrun by Nazis who use political prisoners and desperate locals to dig for the precious wolfram (tungsten), a metal important to both sides in the war effort. Manuela, a single mother who works in the mine, finds that the metal goes for much more on the black market. Soon she is working both sides to her advantage, until she realizes her work on the Allied side includes participating in a spy game. Meanwhile, her sister, Candela sees the need to help her Jewish neighbors escape to freedom, even though the risk might cost her entire family their lives. Based on a true story, this riveting tale is one of power, brutality, and justice.
