3 Tips to Look and Feel Your Best

I’d like to think we can have the best of all things if we so choose. I was speaking with a colleague the other day, and we were talking about skin and aging. "Well when you’re a female and over 40, you have to pick," she said. "Do you want a nice ass or a nice face? You can’t have both." I politely told her, "That’s not how I live."

The truth in her statement is this: when you loose body fat, you loose it everywhere, including the face. A person with a high BMI often has a healthier looking face as they grow older than someone that has a leaner body mass.  This is because the fat underneath the surface of the skin fills out the face, giving it a youthful, glowing appearance.

Upon meeting Deepak Chopra this fall and reading his book, Super Gene, he shared his life’s research and explained that only 5% of our genes are fixed. This means 95% of our genetic destiny is not set in stone. Do you know what that means for us? It means we have to take much more responsibility for what our bodies experience. It means we are in charge of making health happen or disease happen. Since there is not a genetic disposition for how we age, we have the opportunity to create out process through the power of focus.

Here are three tips to get your mind and your butt going in the right direction:

BALANCE. Find a happy medium of working out and keeping your body in tip-top shape without going into a scary obsessive place. Find balance in your exercise regime so that it helps you be healthy. Your exercise should be supplementing your life, your happiness, and your joy. If you can do this, the face on your skin will not suffer.

COLLAGEN. Put it on your skin; don’t eat it. Collagen is a protein, so eating it does not necessarily change the integrity of the skin. However, it can be absorbed through the skin and it provides integrity, firmness, and elasticity to skin structures. Using topical collagen (Types I and II) increase the plumpness of the skin on the face. Look for any products that have ‘Hydrolyzed Collagen’ as a topical.

MOOD. You are what you think. If you're thinking mean things about yourself, you’re going to look mean. If you are thinking nice things about yourself, you are going to look nice. Seems simple, but when it comes down to it, it’s not easy to deconstruct all of the negative thoughts you have all the time about yourself. Instead of battling it out in your head, I believe there is an easier way: ADD MORE FUN! When you seek fun in everything you do, your mood lifts: you laugh more, you smile more, you work more efficiently, and nice people come your way.

The vibration your body carries when you are in a happy state of mind leads your physiology into a successful state of health and vitality. Being nice to yourself leads to making good choices about food, exercising, and how you feel about yourself. So even if you might not necessarily feel like you are the most amazing or beautiful person in the world, try treating yourself like you are the most amazing and beautiful person in the world! Chances are, you’re going to like the feeling because in your heart you know you deserve the best in all things!
