4 Tips for Creating a Cozy Living Area

While we may all have different styles and preferences when it comes to the design of our homes and the things we use to decorate them, most people want two things out of their homes: they want it to be their safe space, where they can unwind; and they want it to be warm and inviting for when they have their guests over. Both of these goals can be achieved by creating a cozy living environment. However, it can be hard to do this if you're not sure where to start. After all, coziness is a feeling, and feelings are hard to manufacture, right? Luckily, you've come to the right place!

Plants

A stuffy room is never going to feel cozy or inviting. It's a good idea to have a few plants throughout your home, especially in the living area. This will create a naturally down-to-earth look and feel and bring a touch of color into homes with more neutral color schemes. Many people find plants to be calming, and houses with plants in them tend to feel warmer and more inviting instantly. If you don't have naturally green thumbs, don't let that deter you – you can invest in an AeroGarden to make the indoor gardening process easier.

Pillows

If you want to combine style with comfort, pillows should be your go-to. You can also have blankets on your chairs and couches if you're going to go for the full cozy effect, but these can be bothersome when it's warm. Pillows, however, can be used year-round. They look great, give a warm and cozy touch to every room, and make seating more comfortable. Not to mention that you can easily change things up when you get bored of a particular look by getting new throw pillow sets or simply mixing and matching. You can get some inspiration for that here if you're new to mixing things up.

Relaxing scents

We don't always realize it, but scents tend to have quite an impact on how we feel. For example, scents like mint or lemon may make you feel more invigorated. It, therefore, makes sense that we could use scents to help create a cozy vibe. Any relaxing scent will make a massive difference in the general feel of your living area. Think of lavender, vanilla, or cinnamon – these are all scents that make us feel relaxed. You can invest in an oil burner, burn some incense, or light a few candles. You'll have your living area smelling good and feeling cozy within no time.

Play with lighting

Another major factor is how inviting a room can feel lighting. Cold lighting tends to feel uninviting, and warmer lighting is best if you want to go for a more relaxed setting. There are various ways of using lighting to change a room's mood – you can use dim lights, fairy lights, or Edison bulbs to create a softer effect. Get creative – there are endless lighting options, even for smaller homes! During the day, you can open curtains to let in some natural light. You'll be surprised at how much it changes a room.
