Sleep is very important for your health and well-being. It's recommended that adults get about seven to nine hours of sleep every night. Aim to go to bed around the same time every night, as well as rise in the morning at about the same time every morning. This will ensure that you get a better quality of sleep and you will not wake up as often. You will also get a better quality of sleep as well. A sleep chair is a great place to grab a nap and is easy to get out of as well.
There are a number of healthy sleep tips that you should follow including exercising daily, sleeping on a comfortable bed and pillow, avoiding caffeine and alcohol before bed, and keep electronics out of your room. You should also establish a relaxing bedtime routine that will help you to unwind and relax. This will make it easier for you to wind down and fall asleep. Sleep is very important and should be a high priority on your list. You will function better, and you will also be more productive when you get enough sleep.
There are a number of reasons why you may suffer from a lack of sleep. Often it can be hard to turn off your mind when you are trying to catch some ZZZs. It can be helpful to keep a notepad by the side of your bed so that you can jot down notes and give your brain permission to let it all go.
If you are in the habit of staying up late and sleeping in, you are actually throwing off your eternal clock which is set to the routine of the sun. We are programmed to rise and set with the sun. You can never really catch up on your lost sleep, so just try to limit sleeping in to only about an hour. You can always grab a cat nap later if you feel like you are lagging. Just limit it to about half an hour so you don't throw off your nighttime slumber.
If you are unlucky enough to share your bed with a snorer, you can always try to get your partner to sleep on his or her side to help reduce the noise. You could also play some soothing music to help drown out the noise as well. There are even pillows that can help to tilt your head a certain way to eliminate snoring.
Hormones play a big part in why you are having difficulty seeping. Also, taking a nice, relaxing bath before bedtime can help to relax you and to help relieve any cramps or pain that you may have. Doctors recommend getting 20 to 30 minutes of exercise daily and to avoid caffeine and alcohol at least three hours before you plan on going to bed.
Go to bed on a full stomach. You don't want to be stuffed, but you should eat some protein, such as a hard-boiled egg or some cheese. You basically want to have a satisfying snack that will tide you over until breakfast.
You should also avoid doing anything in your bedroom other than sleeping. That means you shouldn't be doing paperwork in your bed, or eating or doing crafts. Your brain will associate it with all of those things, so keep it strictly to sleep and relaxing. You can burn a scented candle in your room, or have a wax warmer on with your favorite scent. Lavender is a good scent for winding down. Try to keep your room tidy and free from clutter.
Keep it dark and cool. You will sleep better with a very dim light and in cooler temperatures. You will also have a better quality of sleep, as well. If you work nights and need to sleep during the day, you could invest in some blackout curtains. They work great for those quick afternoon naps, too. Depending on what you prefer, you may like a little background noise. If you don't like to play soft music, there are plenty of noise machines that you can get, or you can turn on a fan to help drown out any outside noises.
