When you start packing all your things, it often becomes clear that you have many unnecessary things: old clothes that you no longer wear, worn-out shoes, and so on. Many people, though, prefer not to throw things away because they are under the impression that they will come in handy at one point or another. However, we suggest you get rid of them and not take them to your new place.
Additionally, it is better to pack first clothes and shoes, as well as things that are not going to be used in the near future.
When moving, it is also advisable to turn to some moving company, unless, of course, you have your own truck. Trying to transport things in a regular car is inconvenient at best. A regular car is suitable for transporting documents, flowers, and a pet.
Pack Things Up
For packing, you will need a large number of cardboard boxes (they will be gladly given to you at the nearest grocery store or supermarket), large bags, and bubble wrap for transporting some fragile furniture. The latter can be purchased at a construction store.
All books, cosmetics, utensils, and food products should be stowed in boxes. Bed linen, pillows, and blankets could be wrapped in some cellophane bag. When packing things in boxes, it is important not to forget about weight - the box should not fall apart when you lift it up. Therefore, it is better to mix light things with heavy ones.
Indoor flowers also need to be carefully packed in a box, but you may want to lay a newspaper between the pots for stability. If the flower is very large, then it will have to be transported separately.
Each box must be marked. Boxes with fragile things must be marked with a certain sign, and you should also warn the movers about it being fragile.
Often when moving, you have to disassemble the furniture. Putting it back together afterward is rather complicated because the fastening elements might get lost. Thus, all the cogs, bolts, etc. should be carefully put into bags and folded into one small box - it is desirable to transport it in a car, with you.
One large box or a bag should be left for the essentials. It is advisable to think in advance about what exactly you are going to need during the first couple of days once you have moved into a new place so that everything is at hand.
It is necessary to prepare in advance your refrigerator too, as you will not be able to take your food with you either.
When leaving, it is necessary to put your old place in order, so as not to leave it messy. It is best to do this on the next day after the move when you have some free time.
