Vons Home Delivery

One of the most popular services nationally, Vons delivers fresh food to your door any day of the week. They even do same-day delivery (if you order before 8:30am) for those days when you need something immediately. And even better, there is not a membership fee. If you are a Vons Club cardholder, you also receive the same discounts and benefits shopping online as you would in store. Vons does everything they can to make shopping convenient for customers. With that in mind, they created the "Shop by History" tool that allows you to see all previously ordered items on one page. You can reorder them all, or select some of them. It prevents you from searching for items you frequently use. 

Vons is a great option for delivery service, with really only one downside: every purchase must cost a minimum of $49. If you don’t reach this point, they will not deliver to your home. So if you’re just restocking on eggs or milk, you’ll have to order more to get it delivered to your door.

Naturally to Your Door 

Unlike many grocery delivery services, Naturally to Your Door is a small, family-owned company that solely operates in San Diego. Vic and Marissa, the owners, aim to supply people throughout the county with healthy, organic fruits and vegetables efficiently—ridding the hassle of shopping. They also love supporting the local farms and spreading their fresh produce throughout San Diego. As the name implies, Naturally to Your Door delivers a "set box" to your home weekly or biweekly. A "set box" is simply a package of produce grown locally; every package is different, but you have the option of choosing certain boxes or customizing your own. Every Friday night, you can check what Naturally to Your Door will be supplying on their produce list. A membership or coupled fee is not necessary; you create an account, pay the amount you wish (price rankings available on their website), and order your produce and packages! 

This company is widely praised by San Diegans, as it’s unlike most delivery companies. While you can customize your "set box," the contents are often unknown to those upon ordering. Natural to Your Door customers enjoy discovering new fruits, vegetables, and herbs—trying things that they would not normally purchase at a grocery store. So if you don’t particularly enjoy surprises and want to order specific items, this might not be the company for you. Naturally to Your Door only supplies produce; other grocery store items are not included, so be aware. 

Amazon Prime Fresh 

An extension of Amazon, this delivery service supplies almost every grocery store item, and at roughly the same price. Here's how it works: once your groceries are ordered, there are two delivery options you must choose from: attended delivery, where you are present at the time, or doorstep delivery. Both are equal in price, so choose whatever is convenient for you. And if you order meats, frozen food, or anything that needs to be kept cool, don’t worry! Amazon Prime Fresh delivers these products in coolers, each item wrapped in their own plastic bag.

While it’s a great service, Amazon Prime Fresh is expensive. At $299 per year, Amazon Prime Fresh seems to exceed the cost of several other services. Shipping is only free on orders $40 and over, so be aware of the extra charge if you don’t reach this. However, there is one huge advantage to Amazon Prime Fresh: you receive a membership to Amazon Prime, which includes free two-day shipping and the ability to stream movies! So if you are looking for a grocery service, free shipping on various Amazon items, and movie streaming, this is the place for you! 

Envoy

At Envoy, a personal shopper will go to a nearby Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods (whichever one you want) and shop for your list of items! They personally go to the store and shop exactly like you would. Simply, you make an Envoy account, create a shopping list and they will buy everything you need and deliver it right to your door. It’s simple, quick, and hassle free!

Of all the grocery deliver companies, this one is arguably the most affordable and worthwhile. They offer several plans, most notably the Ease plan is just $10 per month. This pays for a monthly membership and limitless deliveries from Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods––though you’ll need to pay for your groceries, of course! There is no minimum order fee, so anything can be ordered at any time. Overall, Envoy is a great choice for a grocery service.
