Food plays a large role with our attitudes and emotions. There are foods that give us energy, help us focus, and sharpen our memory. The foods on this list, however, serve a much sexier function.

In ancient times, it was said that foods reminiscent to genitalia were considered aphrodisiacs, which explains bananas, cucumbers, and figs. Many are aware of the common items considered to be aphrodisiacs such as champagne, oysters, and chocolate. However, you might be surprised to find that some foods found in salad can put you and your partner over the edge. Salad doesn’t sound very sexy, we know, but hear us out. Foods with antioxidants like pomegranate, protect the lining of blood vessels which allow an additional amount of blood to course through them increasing sensitivity below the belt. Asparagus, along with having a phallic appearance, contains vitamin E, which boosts hormones. In addition, pine nuts and pumpkin seeds are packed with zinc, known to increase libido.

When shopping for foods to make you hot and bothered, try something hot in general. Chili peppers are said to stimulate nerve endings and raise the pulse as a result of the capsaicin, a chemical that gives off its fieriness. There’s still nothing wrong, however, with sticking to the classics. Oysters and caviar, like pine nuts and pumpkin seeds, are also full of zinc. Antioxidants can additionally be found in chocolate and strawberries, which pair nicely with a chilled bottle of champagne. Champagne is considered to be the drink of love and getting a nice buzz from it can make anyone affectionate. When in doubt, shave truffles over dishes to arouse the palate. The expensiveness and exclusivity of the ingredient may be enough to excite some women, but the musky, pungent aroma stimulates the palate and can lead to stimulation elsewhere. So when the candles are lit and the slow jams are on—if you’re looking to get turned on, think about feasting on these foods to feel a little friskier.
