Biggest Fashion Trends for Men and Women

Fashion Trends

Every autumn, we thoroughly relish the opportunity to do a rundown of the latest fall and winter fashion trends that you can expect to see in the coming months. Way back at the beginning of the summer, designers started revealing what they had in store for the fall.

Some ideas were more conceptual than ready-to-wear, but one thing is for sure, designers are determined to make fall fashion anything but frumpy and subdued. Here are a few of our favorite fall/winter fashion trends that are already in the wardrobe rotation.

Cool Shades for Colder Weather

Even though the sun is setting earlier each day, a cool pair of shades are still a must during the fall. Right now, oversized sunglasses are making a big comeback. Completely blacked-out lenses were another common trend of the fall runways. Styles like The Conquistador at Privé Revaux will add a touch of coolness to any fall outfit, and you’ll still have money left over for other fall accessories.

Sophisticated Plaid

Men and women alike will go gaga over the fall and winter plaid prints. The grunge rock-era plaids from previous seasons are giving way to sophisticated check prints in frosty colors. You’ll find upscale plaids on everything from overcoats to suits to accessories. Pair a grey plaid with a pop of red-orange for a significant impact.

Menswear Inspired Suits

The ladies are getting to enjoy suit styles typically made for men. Many of the world’s top designers, including Calvin Klein and Jason Wu, have created female versions of double-breasted and single-button jackets with trim slacks that are very reminiscent of men’s power suits from the 1980s.

Little Dress on the Prairie

Floral prints have found their way to the fall runways, but the more significant trend is the prairie-style dresses that they adorn. Some 2017 fall/winter fashion shows included breezy dresses that cover everything from the throat down and feature the classic bib details of dresses from the prairie.

Patchwork Prints Inspired by Quilts

The love for Americana continues with the quilt-like prints that made their way down the fall 2017 runways. The patchwork of prints is found on dresses, pants, and jackets. It's the perfect way to bundle up without sacrificing style.

Boots That Pop

Hands down the most anticipated fashion trend of the fall/winter season is breaking out the boots. It’s a guarantee that boots will be a shoe of choice, but the style of the season changes from year to year. This fall shoe trend was leaning towards super bold boots.

Moschino nailed this trend with their tan knee-high boots that feature package sticker prints. Oscar de la Renta, Chanel, and many other designers opted to create metallic boots that glitter like there’s no tomorrow.

Fashion Served Up On a Silver Platter

Metallics have been a fall must-have for the last few years. Rose gold and copper have had their moments, but this fall, it’s silver’s time to shine. Countless designers featured disco-ball-worthy pieces that begged to be seen. And they didn’t limit the bold finish to accessories and accents. There were head-to-toe silver ensembles the Tin Man would envy.

Trenches – The Go-To Coat for Fall/Winter

The clear coat style for fall is a trench coat. Men’s and women’s apparel designers created drama on the catwalk with long, impeccably tailored trenches. But don’t expect these to be traditional trenches. Wider lapels, embellished arms, peephole cut-outs, bold colors, and floor-skimming lengths are giving a breath of new life into a classic coat design.

Feathers Are the New Fringe

You won’t see fringe in the coming months, but you are sure to see plenty of plumage. Feathers have become the go-to trim for fancy attire, but they’re also being used to cover entire ensembles. We’re predicting that flowing feathers around the hemlines of skirts is going to be the trend that sticks.

Lots of Polka Dots

Whether they’re on an overcoat or pair of pants, delicate polka dots are adorning more clothing this winter. The classic black polka dot on a white background showed up in both menswear and womenswear. While some designers went oversized with the polka dots, small-scale prints are the more significant trend.

From your head to your toes, the designers have you covered when it comes to what to wear. Pick your styles and go for it.
