Walk into any house or apartment these days, and you are guaranteed to find some household items from that place, Ikea. Ikea has figured out the formula to get people to buy their products because they are stylish and modern while still being affordable. You don't have a problem assembling the items yourself and are ok with many of them not lasting very long.
The thing is that some Ikea products are made of quality material and can last, while others are likely to be a temporary solution.
Besides just being of questionable quality, it isn't easy to walk through the store and not spend hundreds more than you had planned to.
This article will go over some of the mistakes that many people make when shopping at Ikea that you should avoid.
1 - Spending too little on oversized items
When you see a couch for less than $300, is very stylish and would look great in your home, think again. Or, if you love those cabinets that have that country home look that you love, then wait before you buy.
The problem is that some things are too good to be true. When it comes to significant pieces of furniture like a couch, bed, or wardrobe, you are better off spending more there or at another store. The problem is that those cheap pieces are made with very low-quality material. They are not meant to last and, in many cases, will break before you've ever really used them for long.
There are many places to buy a new sofa that will undoubtedly cost more but will be higher quality and more comfortable. Another issue with those cheap couches from Ikea is that they are not even comfortable to sit on.
2 - Research before you shop
The way that Ikea makes the bulk of its money is with impulse buys. They have the store's layout so that you have to walk through the showroom to get the items you want. And you end up spending more than you had planned.
If you go online and use their website to find what you are looking for, you can make a list ahead of time and only get the things you need so you don't overspend while there.
3 - Shopping before college begins
Every year, first-year college students converge in the Ikeas around the country to get cheap furnishings for their new dorm room. If you plan to redecorate your home or buy a new couch, then try to avoid going there in August.
When it is crowded there, it is complicated to get a good idea of how the furniture is and even more challenging to get a moment to measure it. Make sure that you go after September or before August not to have to deal with huge crowds. Weekends during the summer may be ok since people are on vacation or at the beach.
