Beauty Tips for the Business Environment

These days if you are a business professional it is essential to have a look that is well polished.  You enter a room and you are instantly judged by how you look.  This could be before a sales presentation, at a networking meeting or even meeting your boss’s boss for the first time.  Most women and men have the professional attire down but sometimes they overlook the really important details of their grooming.

Most spend time on their hair; men shave and women apply makeup and think that they are finished.  What they don’t realize is that the small things make all the difference and those small things help you get promoted or the sale because you have paid attention to detail.

Women

Women tend to be lacking in three areas: hair on their lip and chin; hair sticking out of their nostrils and dated makeup application.  I have seen women with flawless makeup, dressed to the nines and when you stand next to them the hair on their lip is obvious or there are a couple of dark hairs protruding on their chin.  They probably think their makeup hides everything but that is untrue.   Another image buster is protruding nose hair.  Unfortunately the older we get, the more unwanted hair we have.  Makeup is another area in which women have problems with.  Either they wear too little or they wear too much or it looks dated.

Men

When it comes to projecting a professional image, men lack in three areas:  their brows have a couple of very long hairs that are heading up toward their forehead; they have protruding nose hairs and they have hair on their ears.  I have seen well-dressed men with all of the above.  The random long hairs on the brows tend to be the result of aging, for some reason a couple grow wildly.  Some men have so much nose hair, one wonders how they breathe and if they are grey it is hard not to notice them.  Furry ears on anyone is a distraction.

What To Do

One of the best investments anyone can make is a magnifying mirror preferably one that has a light built in.  Spend some time and really look at your face.  Identify what your weaknesses are.  For women waxing the upper lip and chin on a regular basis will keep the hair in check.  Use tweezers to pluck the nose hair or have it waxed.   Stop by your favorite makeup counter on a regular basis and ask about the new colors and get a touch up.  For men when you are at the salon or barber getting your hair cut talk to the stylist or barber.  Ask them to trim your brows and perhaps your ears.  Purchase a nose hair trimmer or get your nose waxed.  The important thing is to groom on a regular basis.  Get in a routine.  You will be happy you did because you will make the sale, network, and meet your boss’s boss and they will be impressed with you because of your attention to detail.
