Halloween decorating ideas

Halloween is definitely one of the most fun holidays to decorate for. Whether you want to get spooky with scary decor, keep it friendly and festive, or create a more encompassing feel for fall as a whole, you have many options to explore. Here are some of our suggestions to get you started in your haunted and happy home.

1. Classic Pumpkin Carving or Painting

You can never go wrong with pumpkins at Halloween. It is the quintessential Halloween decoration. You can make an activity out of it and carve some pumpkins for the front porch or you can paint pumpkins with festive colors and designs and use them as centerpieces, mantel decor, or a welcoming foyer focal point. The options are endless. Try incorporating gourds into your pumpkin arrangement as well for the perfect fall look.

2. Don’t Wig, Out-Web Out!

Fake spider webs are super cheap to buy and can be placed anywhere. Go to your local party store and you will find a ball of webbing that looks like cotton stuffing. This material can be stretched along porches, doorways, staircases and more. For an extra spooky effect, stick some plastic spiders into the webs!

3. Fill Jars With Candy for Tables

Buying some clear vases or jars and filling them with candy is a great way to bring Halloween into your home. Use candy corn or jelly beans to make this a colorful addition to your decor.

4. Hang Bats or Ghosts From Lights

Another simple way to create a more festive Halloween environment inside your home is to make or buy paper/plastic bats and ghosts and hang them from light fixtures or chandeliers. The front entryway might be the best place for these because you invite your guests in on a festive note without the hanging decorations being too intrusive in your daily life.

5. DIY Door Wreath

Wreaths are an easy do-it-yourself item that can be made for any season or holiday and changed out very easily. For Halloween in particular, the options are endless. Ghosts, spiders, witches, bats, candy, pumpkins, etc. Add any of these items to your creative wreath display and guests as well as trick-or-treaters will be sure to notice!

6. Shadow in the Window

If you want to make your home a little more haunted for Halloween night, consider putting a shadow in the window. Use a white sheet and hang it over the window first. Then, make a figure such as a witch in a rocking chair or a creepy man with an axe. Shine a light behind the spooky figure and you’re done! From the outside, this shadow will be sure to cause shivers.

8. Increase Spookiness with Candles

Candles are a great Halloween decor addition because dim lighting adds to the enchanted ambiance. Candles of all shapes, sizes, and colors will work. Try candles throughout your home for the holidays or small candles in bags to light up your driveway or front walkway.

These are some Halloween decorating ideas to get you started this year. Remember to get creative and get in the spooky spirit. Happy Halloween!
