Monday’s are often the most dreaded day of the week. But before you reach for another cup of coffee to resolve what ails you, consider what may have caused your sluggish feelings. According to Dr. Edward F. Group III, founder of Global Healing Center, the average American ingests over 2,100,000 toxins every 24 hours in their body. This can lead to a myriad of health problems, from an inability to focus, lack of energy, migraine, head aches, that terrible bloated feeling and of course, Monday mood swings.

A quick detox may be exactly what your body needs after a long weekend out on the town, indulging in holiday fare or traveling. To begin, start your day with a glass of lemon water, you may add organic honey if desired and the temperature is up to you. This alone will do wonders for your digestive track, and help boost your immune system. By Drinking the lemon water on an empty stomach, the body can more easily soak up all the cleansing benefits of the lemon. Then after you have eaten something, take a milk thistle supplement and a vitamin C, which helps the body produce glutathione, a liver compound that drives away toxins. Milk thistle has been shown to have a positive effect on the liver, which plays a primary role in removing toxins from the body. Let’s not forget about the kidneys, organs that play a vital role by cleaning your blood every day. Uva Ursi (found at your local vitamin shop) can clean the kidneys which would in turn increase blood flow and the amount of oxygen carried by the blood. This will help you stay focused during the brutal Monday commute.

Next is exercise. I know that’s not what you want to hear but it too plays a big part in cleansing your body. There is even a workout called "Qi Gong" which is designed just to cleanse the body. And before you get too intimidated, it’s actually not strenuous at all and there are free video sessions online that are relatively short and easy to learn. Finally, this next step may prove to be the most difficult of all, take a warm bath. So maybe it’s not that difficult, but it can have wonderful healing effects. By adding a bit of sea salt to the water, which helps to pull toxins from your skin, you can relax knowing that you did you body good all day long. Skin, or epidermis, is the largest organ of the body, and it is exposed to toxins and pollutants every day so due diligence is key. Be sure not to add anything else to the water such as bubble baths or oils, as these may contain chemicals.
Following these simple steps will help your body absorb more nutrients expel more toxins, improve energy levels, increase mental alertness, and boost the immune system. So instead of sulking over Monday, make it an opportunity to better your body and mind. Challenge yourself to be more productive throughout the week with this easy Monday cleanse.
