3 DIY Projects to Try in 2024

2024 is all about sustainable, eco-aware DIY trends. It’s the year we’re going to see much more repurposing, reclaiming, and retro inspiration in our homes as we strive to make changes that last, using good quality materials bought from building merchants, that have less impact on the world around us.

Let’s now take a look at 3 DIY projects you can try out in 2024.

Upcycling furniture using reclaimed materials

Don’t go and buy a brand new chest of drawers or dressers this year. Upcycling really is the way forward - and a project like restoring a bit of furniture can be done in a day - and give a room a real lift, for not very much money at all.

Taking a look around a local antique shop or second-hand furniture showroom can often offer up real gems. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Reclaimed wood furniture often has a real depth to it and can add character and charm to a room in a way new furniture can’t.

Biophilic designs

You might not have heard this term before, but it’s a simple enough concept and one that many of us can embrace, for not very much monetary outlay.

Biophilic design is simply all about using nature as your DIY inspo - and there’s science behind it, as using these design ideas in rooms such as home offices or living spaces can help with well-being and productivity.

How can you use these techniques? Well, think about decorating with plants - it can be as simple as making a feature table full of greenery, or using plants and flowers to fill empty spaces and alcoves in rooms. The plants will add colour and interest.

Some DIY experts are actually even suggesting whole walls of either living or artificial greenery in living spaces. It’s a bold look, and one worth considering if you perhaps don’t have much outdoor space but still love plants and gardening.

Combine these ideas with neutral and light colour palettes on the walls and for the furniture to give an airy feel.

Vintage kitchen inspirations

For many people, the kitchen is the hub of the home and whilst the fitted kitchen will probably never go out of fashion, one DIY trend to look out for and perhaps try this year is the pantry room (basically a walk-in wardrobe, but for food!)

Perfect for anyone who wants to be a bit more organised, a pantry is not only practical and stylish but it’s a way to store modern gadgets like food mixers and coffee machines and keep them out of the way, meaning kitchen spaces can become more streamlined, too.

This setup is also a great one to try if you’re into retro and vintage as before the advent of the professionally fitted kitchen setup, this was what most people had. If vintage is your bag - fill your space with food containers and lots of retro kitchen gadgets too to add appeal.

So there you go, 3 easy DIY ideas to brighten up your home in 2024. Which one will you choose?
