Simple ways to create more space in every room of your home

If you are reading this, it's safe to say you may be struggling with a lack of space in your home. Perhaps every drawer you open is filled to the brim, closets and cupboards are disorganized, and your spare bedroom has become a dumping ground. If this sounds familiar, it's probably time to make a few changes.

Here are some simple ways to create more space in every room of your home.

Living Room

Your living room is a great place to socialize, relax, unwind, and have fun, but if it's cramped, cluttered, or messy, it will make those far more difficult to do.

The more trinkets, photo frames, and other belongings you have on display, the smaller your room will feel, so adopting a more minimalist approach is a good idea. Clear away anything you no longer enjoy looking at or anything you think is just too much, and you should very quickly notice a difference.

Wall shelving is a great way to add additional storage space and can make a lovely focal point, while large mirrors will create the illusion of space. Keep blankets and sofa cushions to a minimum and opt for light and airy colors with subtle mood lighting.

Kitchen

A disorganized or cluttered kitchen can make mealtimes and meal planning a nightmare, so this might be one of the first rooms you want to tackle. Although it may be a daunting prospect, the best way to create space in a kitchen is to start by emptying every single cupboard and drawer. Throw away anything that is broken and set aside a pile for goodwill. A fairly common kitchen problem is having too much cutlery and crockery, so if this is an issue, set aside and store or donate anything you know you will not use in the future.

If you have an overspilling cleaning cabinet in your kitchen, keep one or two cleaning products and get rid of the rest. You should only need a handful of kitchen cloths and, to save even more space, consider buying a handheld vacuum or a mini dustpan and brush

The more cabinet space you create, the better, so be ruthless, and it will make the time you spend in the kitchen far more enjoyable.

Bedroom

There are some brilliant space-saving solutions available nowadays, so you shouldn't have any trouble sorting your bedrooms out! You can gain a considerable amount of space by switching to an ottoman bed but if you have a bed frame and are working to a tighter budget, wheeled under-bed storage containers come in very handy. Use them along with vacuum seal storage bags, and you can create loads of valuable space.

If your closet is a disaster, sort through it and remove anything you won't wear or that no longer fits. It will make it so much easier to find outfits when you aren't fighting through a handful of unwanted clothes.

Space-saving clothing hangers will allow you to fit more into a small space and shoe racks and boxes are great for keeping your footwear in order.

Children's Bedroom

Children probably accumulate more stuff than anyone else in your home, so it's no surprise you may be struggling for space here. One of the best inventions for a kid's room is cubed storage, so if you don't already have it, you might want to check it out. It doesn't matter if you need to store toys, clothes, shoes, or other bits and pieces, the individual boxes that fit into the unit are exceptionally versatile.

Little people have smaller clothes, so instead of buying full-sized furniture, another great idea is to purchase smaller products specifically created for a young person's bedroom. It takes up far less space but will be more than adequate for your little one's shoes and clothes.

Wall shelving is great in a child's room as you can display lots of their creations, trophies, and other treasured memories that they may want to have on show.

Garage

A garage makes a fabulous storage area, but you must be careful, or it could get out of control. If, like many people, you have boxes of stuff that you haven't looked at since you moved into your home decades ago, it may be time to start letting go and decluttering a little.

If you have a collection of bikes taking up valuable floor space, you will find an extensive range of bike racks on the market, many of which are wall-mountable. Floor to ceiling height brackets with adjustable metal shelving will provide loads of space for things like power tools, or you can purchase pegboards and hooks of varying sizes for storing DIY and gardening equipment.

If you are thorough enough, you might end up with enough space for the family car!
