Finally Revealed: The All New Porsche 911 GT3 RS

There is something sensual, even sexy, about an automobile dressed in an all–white skin slipping alongside the ocean surf, shimmering and glimmering as it soaks up the Southern California sun. Top down and screaming with power, an all–white ride rolls with style and exudes an air of confidence that no other vehicle can come close to matching. It’s a Porsche, of course. Sleek, slick and sporty, the German car maker knows how to combine style with power to provide the ultimate road–handling experience with a fun quotient that tops the scales. And while the company offers models in all varieties of color combinations, the one that stands out—the one that says "This is a Porsche"—is white.

Not just any old white, but a multitude of whites, featuring different blends of color to enhance and replenish the designer’s eye and appeal to the discerning customer who is a Porsche lover. In fact, over the past 47 years—as long as they have been tracking such information—Porsche has released no less than 97 offerings of the color white in its automobiles.

There are so many shades and subtleties that it almost takes a linguist just to name the varieties. It started with Ivory and Light Ivory in 1968, followed by Grand Prix White (1973), Polar White (’77), Titan White (’77) and Alpine White (’78). Too terrestrial? Try MoonStone White (’79). Chitton White (’81), and Glacier White (’96) were followed by Biarritz White in 2000. In the past decade we’ve seen Porsche colors in Carrara, Sand and CrŹme White, until finally, in 2013, we’ve come to the realization that there is nothing more pure than, well, Pure White.

The allure of a pure white Porsche is subtle, yet dramatic. Matched with a black, brown or even red interior, the white exterior of a Porsche Carrera GT, 911, Boxster, Cayman or Panamera is a stunning look that is admired by all who gaze on its pureness.

Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova, who took delivery of her personalized Panamera GTS during the Winter Olympics in her hometown of Sochi, says that she chose Cream White for her car because, "white is classic and elegant." 

Now comes the newest white–hot entry into the Porsche lineup, the 911 GT3 RS that was recently introduced at the Geneva Auto Show. It continues to blur the lines between on–road sports cars and true to the track race cars. Featuring a four–liter, six–cylinder engine that produces 500 horsepower, the newest entry into the 911 family will conquer zero to 60 miles per hour in just 3.1 seconds. The lightweight design lowers the car’s center of gravity to provide the best road–handling dynamics of any Porsche. Available in the U.S. in July 2015, the new 911 GT3 RS carries an MSRP of $175,900 and is available, of course, in white.

Perhaps Porsche will offer up a new name for this speedster: "White Lightning."
