12 Interior Design Ideas That Never Go Out of Style

Fashions come and go. It happens in everything: clothing, art, cinema, etc. Some of these trends manage to leave a mark on their discipline, making them come back from time to time through “revivals” or simply making their influence noticeable. There are others that disappear forever, leaving us with the question: how is it possible that we liked “that”? But there are other trends, especially in interior design, that are immortal. Years go by and they don’t come back because they never left. The advantage of following these trends when decorating is that you will achieve a timeless style that will never go out of style.

1. Neutral Tones

If you don’t know what color to choose when decorating your living room, opt for neutral tones (white, beige, grey), and you won’t regret it. They are elegant, timeless, harmonize with the whole palette, relax, and radiate light. If you are going to place two sofas parallel or in a U-shape, as in the image, bring some floor lamps to avoid the room looking flat.

2. Nordic Style

It is the star interior design trend of the last 10 years and it seems that it still has a long way to go! Its refined and minimalist design has captivated interior designers and homeowners. Surely, in your home, you have opted to use neutral colors in some rooms, mix low-cost pieces with designer pieces like luxury lounge chairs - give the furniture other uses, leave structural elements visible, or decorate with natural or vintage objects. In short, you have fallen in love with the Nordic style!

3. Wool Blankets

Get a cozy blanket and you’ll be already warm in a minute. Get the ones you’ve always had, which were a godsend. Now, you keep them in the living room to enjoy them during those sofa and movie marathons that are coming up. Hand-woven with patience, they are warm, soft, and colored with natural dyes.

4. Vintage Furniture

Even if your home is modern in style, you can add an antique piece of furniture: a chest of drawers, a sideboard, a dining table... Whether inherited or bought at a sale, they will enhance any room. And if it has small scratches, stains or marks that reveal the passage of time, leave them. They will make it much more original.

5. Chesterfield Sofa

Who would have told the uptight Londoners of the 19th century that the sofa where they held heated discussions in their clubs would be so fashionable two centuries later? Yes, it was. During this time, its quilted backrest, which is the same height as the arms, has managed to have as many detractors as defenders. Having a leather Chester model in the living room is synonymous with elegance and good taste. Not only that: the more cracked its leather is, the more it is revalued.

6. Chandelier

Since the 16th century, chandeliers have decorated the halls of the nobility, giving them a sophisticated touch. Today, this glamour has become more democratic, and we see these lights in all kinds of houses. And what’s better, in all the rooms! From the hall or the living room to the bedroom, including the bathroom, chandeliers continue their unstoppable rise. And all thanks to the fact that their imposing size has been considerably reduced, making them more bearable.

7. White Curtain

Their simplicity and purity have made white curtains, and in general, those in ecru colors, stand the test of time as if nothing had happened. They look good in any room. In addition, you can put them up alone, giving a feeling of lightness (linen curtains are a hit due to their spectacular drape), or double them, combined with others made of warmer fabrics such as chenille, canvas, or velvet, ideal for winter.

8. Very British Checkered Prints

Just as the navy style is a classic, the British style, with its checkered prints in various sizes and colors, is no less popular. Scottish tartan, Prince of Wales, houndstooth and tweed are still present in the textiles of our homes over the years. Remember them when upholstering – or reupholstering – armchairs, sofas, or cushions. You will have guaranteed success, and you will give your living room a certain cosmopolitan air. Take it to the dining room, too: dress the table with checked tablecloths and napkins.

9. White Kitchens

Do you like simple, bright, and clean kitchens?  Well, nothing reinterprets these conditions like the color white. That’s why white kitchens that use total white on walls, cupboards, and countertops continue to be at the top. The feeling of order, spaciousness, and cleanliness that they convey makes them gain more and more followers.

10. Decorative Moldings

You will be interested to know that this ornamental resource in relief dates back to the Greek era, although it was not until the 18th century that its use became widespread. Today, as yesterday, they continue to decorate walls and ceilings, giving volume, dynamism, and distinction to rooms. More and more interior designers are opting for plaster moldings in their projects, thus putting them back into orbit. If you use them on walls, you will save yourself the trouble of decorating them because they are already an ornament in themselves.

11. Natural Fibers

Those wicker objects that you saw in the village house when you were little have gradually conquered the decoration of urban houses, turning them into a must-have. Before, you only knew wicker and esparto grass, but now a whole world of fibers has opened up before you: sisal, rattan, water hyacinth, jute. Today, you can’t imagine your home without their warm presence in the form of rugs, seats, headboards, lamps, and baskets. And you’re delighted! Their simplicity and resistance explain why they have remained so fresh and how good they still look!

12. Grey Bathrooms

They say that the color gray is a trend but if you stop to think about it, it has never stopped being trendy. It belongs to neutral tones, so its use in decoration automatically makes it timeless, whether used on walls or furniture. However. if you want to be trendy, take it to the bathroom and you will see what a success!
