San Diego Fourth of July Events

Fireworks going off over water

There’s something magical about Independence Day in San Diego. Maybe it’s the way the fireworks light up our bays and beaches, or how the scent of barbecue lingers in the salty sea air. Whether you’re in the mood for a bustling downtown celebration or something a bit more low-key, America’s Finest City offers a sparkling array of 4th of July fireworks shows. Here are our favorite picks for an unforgettable night under the stars.

San Diego County Fair Finale

When: July 4th, 9:00 PM
Where: Del Mar Fairgrounds

The San Diego County Fair ends its summer run with a grand fireworks finale. With over 3,600 aerial bursts—including 500 shells in the final volley—this show is designed to dazzle. Fair admission includes general access to the fireworks, but VIP seating is available for those who want a front-row view.

The Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show

When: July 4th, 9:00 PM
Where: Downtown San Diego

San Diego’s signature July 4th celebration never disappoints. The Big Bay Boom is one of the largest fireworks shows on the West Coast, attracting nearly half a million viewers. Fireworks are launched from four barges in San Diego Bay, creating a panoramic spectacle that can be seen from Shelter Island, Harbor Island, the Embarcadero, and Coronado Ferry Landing. Stake out your spot early and tune in to 101.5 KGB for synchronized music.

Ocean Beach Fireworks

When: July 4th, 9:00 PM
Where: Ocean Beach Pier

Laid-back and classic, the Ocean Beach fireworks show delivers vintage SoCal charm. Fireworks are launched from the end of the OB Pier, making the beach the perfect place to lay down a blanket and watch the sky light up. Free parking is available at the Main Beach and Pier lots, but early arrival is a must. Bonus: Newport Avenue’s local shops and beachy bites make for a great pre-show stroll.

Coronado Fireworks Over Glorietta Bay

When: July 4th, 9:00 PM
Where: Glorietta Bay, Coronado

Start your morning with Coronado’s 70th Annual Independence Day Parade at 10:00 AM, enjoy live music in Spreckels Park at 4:00 PM, and cap the day with fireworks over Glorietta Bay at 9:00 PM. Bring a radio and tune into 96.5 FM KyXy to hear the accompanying patriotic soundtrack. It’s a picture-perfect Fourth in one of San Diego’s most picturesque neighborhoods.

Red, White and BOOM! at LEGOLAND

When: July 4th, 8:30 PM
Where: LEGOLAND California, Carlsbad

If you're celebrating with little ones, LEGOLAND’s family-friendly festivities are a must. From games and character meet-and-greets to a patriotic costume parade, the park offers nonstop fun from 1:00 to 9:00 PM. The fireworks show begins at 8:30 PM, with LEGO-themed 3D viewing glasses for an extra burst of wow. All activities are included with park admission.

Escondido Independence Day Festival

When: July 4th, 9:00 PM
Where: California Center for the Arts, Escondido

Live music, gourmet food trucks, and a touch of local flair make Escondido’s celebration a can’t-miss. Taking place on the Great Green lawn, this free festival includes performances by Moonlight Trio, Finnegan Blue, and Casey Hensley. SoCal Pro Wrestling adds an unexpected twist with four matches throughout the day, before the fireworks show wraps up the festivities at 9:00 PM.

Oceanside Fireworks & 130th Anniversary Celebration

When: July 3rd, 9:00 PM
Where: El Corazon Site, Oceanside

Too excited to wait until the 4th? Oceanside kicks things off a day early with live music, food trucks, and fireworks to celebrate both Independence Day and the city’s 137th anniversary. The show starts at 9:00 PM at the El Corazon Site, with parking available at the nearby Business Park. Bring a lawn chair and your festive spirit.

Lake Murray Fireworks and MusicFest

When: July 4th, 9:00 PM
Where: Lake Murray Community Park

If you’re looking for a neighborhood celebration with big heart, Lake Murray’s Fireworks and MusicFest is a top pick. Food vendors, live bands, and family-friendly fun begin early in the day, followed by a vibrant fireworks show over the lake. The music fest takes place on the San Carlos side, though the fireworks are easily visible from La Mesa as well.

From waterfront shows to family festivals, San Diego knows how to throw a celebration worthy of the red, white, and blue. Wherever you decide to plant your beach chair or picnic blanket this 4th of July, we wish you a festive evening filled with laughter, music, and brilliant bursts of light. Happy Independence Day from all of us at Fine Magazine.
